Located in the northern side of the capital city of Thimpu, Tashichho Dzong is a very ancient and sacred monastery of Bhutan. The original structure was built in 1216 by Lama Gyalwa Lhanapa, but it was ruined many times due to natural calamities. The present structure is built by Jigme Dorji Wangchuck; who was the third King of Bhutan.
Constructed in traditional Bhutanese style without any use of nails or iron, this place consists of 30 shrines and chapels that houses monks and serves as king’s office. The two-storeyed building is praised by many skilled architects and tourists alike. The place is worth paying a visit for attaining inner peace!
