Manage your expectations and your mood

Training is not going to be perfect every single day, but there is no need to get frustrated by it nor let it affect your dog. Adapt your behavior and attitude so that your dog’s learning ability and confidence are encouraged. If your mood is calm, then your dog will also be calm.

If your dog is afraid of your bad mood, he will not learn anything new. He will be careful and will not trust you.

Dog training classes and a good trainer can improve your behavior in such a way that you will get success with your dog.

Take care of your dog’s nature

All dogs have different nature. Like children, different species also study in different ways and their abilities are also different. Some dogs are stubborn and they challenge you for everything. Some will lean towards the back to make you happy. You have to adjust your training techniques according to the nature of your dog.

Reward immediately

Dogs don’t understand the cause and effect of such a long period. They learn fast. You should give praise or reward to your dog for behaving the way you want or to repeat it again within 2 seconds. If you take more time, then he will not associate that award with the work that you asked him to do.

More than this, you should also make sure that you are praising him for doing the right thing at the right time. Otherwise, you will also be rewarding him for things you do not want.

Suppose, you are teaching your dog the “sit” command. He sits for a moment, but he stands back as long as you praise or award him. In this case, he will understand that you are rewarding him for standing and not for sitting.

Think about clicker training

Clicker training is a method of praising immediately with the help of a clicker. You can click on it more quickly than giving it a treat to your dog or bobbing on his head. In this way, clicker training increases the speed of learning your dog’s good behavior, it is much faster according to the dog’s learning. This creates a positive connection between the sound of the click and the rewards. Gradually, your dog will recognize the clicker’s voice as a reward for his good behavior. You can use clicker training for any dog command.

Click the clicker device, and then immediately treat the dog. The reason for this is that a positive connection is created by the sound of the click. Later, that voice will become a kind of “gesture”, by which Doug will realize that he has done something right.

When your dog behaves as you wish, make a click sound, and then treat it. If it continues that behavior, you can name that behavior with a command. Now you can do the commands and transactions together with the help of a clicker.

For example, if you ever teach your dog the “sit/sit” command, give a click sound, give a treat, and praise him by sitting. When he starts to sit only to get treats, then start saying “sit” to get him in that position. To give it a thumbs up, click with it as well. Gradually he himself will understand that after listening to “sit”, he gets a click reward.

Be Consistent

If the environment is not friendly, your dog will not understand what you want from him. Every person who lives with your dog should understand the language of their training and help them to implement it. For example, if you do not want your dog to jump on people, then stop the children too, so that they do not let the dog jump on you. Otherwise, all the training given by you will become useless.

Also, confirm that the rest of the people are being used by you in the training of the dog and are using all the commands they have learned. He does not speak English, and he cannot even distinguish “sit” and “sit down”. By using these words interchangeably, you will confuse it.

Because he will not be able to make a clear link between a direct command and an action, his response to the command will be either hit or miss.

Always praise and reward him for success and good behavior and sometimes even give short treatment

Small treats motivate your dog to train. However, this treat should be very small, tasty and easy to chew. You will not want to stop the training session in the middle, nor will you want to finish it too soon.

Note the amount of time it takes to eat hard treats and semi-moist, such as “Bill Jack” or “Zuke’s Mini Naturals”. You also have to treat him to a pencil eraser head size, enough to keep him motivated, and you won’t have to wait long for your dog to finish it.

Use “high value” treat when needed

Use “high value” trees to boost your confidence when teaching difficult or important commands. For example, these include freeze-dried liver, roasted chicken breast chunks, or turkey lunch meats.

As soon as the dog learns that command, give him high-value treats and as soon as you have to continue training, then bring the treats back. But always praise him.

Give empty stomach training

Do not feed your dog the same amount of food until a few hours before training. The more treats your dog wants, the more he will be interested in learning the work that he gets to treat.

Always stop training on a positive note. Even if the training session is not good and your dog has not learned the new command, finish the training in such a way that you can praise him. If you finish the training session with a command that he has already learned, if he remembers something by doing this, then it is your love and your appreciation.

Stop barking

If your dog barks at you and you don’t want him to do it, you should discourage him until he stops barking, and then praise him. Sometimes they bark at you for their attention and sometimes because of disappointment. Do not throw a ball or any toy. This will give him such an education that if he barks at you, you will obey him. Do not shout at your dog to calm down, this will get your attention.
