LED tubes have become the most viable choice of light fixture in all home and office environments. They are efficient and effective in various ways when compared to traditional light sources. They have significantly impacted the lighting market ever since their introduction.

Lighting plays such a huge role in any domestic, commercial or industrial environments. Ever since people have seen the light (pun intended) they have gravitated towards LEDs. It has significantly reduced electricity and maintenance cost while outliving their warranty period as opposed to traditional fixtures.

The beneficial aspects of switching to LED tube lights is important in certain aspects such as productivity, efficiency, comfort and customer’s compliance.

LED tube lights are available in the market as retrofit LED lights to replace fluorescent tubes or as plug and play LED lights for new fixtures.

Advantages of LED tubes

Flicker free light:

LED lights have the tendency to produce flicker free light with no start-up time like traditional metal halide or fluorescent bulbs. They start up as soon as you hit the switch.

Ballast compatible retrofit kits:

LED tubes are UL certified specifically to replace T8 fluorescent tubes. They are available under three specifications UL type A UL type B and UL type C.

UL type A and UL type B LED tube lights can retrofit these fixtures by either integrating with existing ballast or by bypassing the ballast respectively.

UL type C is a bit different and includes LED driver of its own but can fit in with preexisting fixture.

Directional light source

LED tubes emit light at a 110 degree pattern opposed to the circular pattern of light given off by T8 fluorescent tubes. This is considerably beneficial when it comes to aimed lighting as most of the light given off by the T8 fixture is wasted before hitting the targeted area.

Environment friendly

LED tubes are environment friendly and free of all toxic chemicals unlike fluorescent tubes which contain mercury and toxic to the environment. They have to be carefully disposed off and are non-recyclable unlike LED tubes which are recyclable.

Compatible in varying temperatures:

The functional aspects of  LED tubes remain unfazed by varying temperatures low or high. They are functional even at freezing temperatures.

Easy Installation

They are easy to install, and most fixtures have wiring on one end while the other end is for support. But it should be checked before purchasing.

Conclusion:

LED tube lights do have higher up front cost but in the long run they have proven their worth in terms of function and cost because of little to no maintenance.

LED lights have extra features which enhance their ability to render true colors of the object they impart light on. It is due to the fact that LEDs can be customized in a range of colors and its varying temperatures ranging from warm yellow (2500K) to cool white (5000K).

They have high color rendering index which is usually 80 for fluorescent tubes and LEDs have 80+ CRI which show actual colours.

These aspects balance out the downside of high upfront costs because of their long life and efficiency.
