A water dispenser is common home equipment. So you might think that investing in one should be pretty easy, right?

But when you look at available options in the market, you might be surprised as there’s a ton to choose from.

Basically, a water dispenser stores and releases water conveniently.  It eliminates the need to keep and refill several water bottles in the fridge. Depending on your household’s water consumption, you can have a dispenser last a couple of days or even a week before having to refill it.

There are two common types of water dispensers. First is the plumbed-in type, which is attached to a direct water source. The second is the bottled water dispenser that requires replacing and refilling containers. The right type depends on your personal preferences.

Aside from the type, it also helps to consider the following factors when buying a water dispenser.

  1. Capacity. What’s your normal water consumption at home? Do you tend to empty water bottles quickly, or are there several people in your household? If so, you might want to go for water dispensers with a bigger capacity for convenience. If it’s a small-sized household, on the other hand, and you’re mostly out during the day, a medium-sized water dispenser will likely be enough.
  2. Space. Aside from the capacity of the dispenser, you’ll also want to think about space requirements. Even if you feel that a larger dispenser may suit your household better, check first if there’s room to accommodate it. The spot should be easily accessible, and there should be enough space so you can use the dispenser comfortably. If you’re planning to invest in a plumbed-in type, then the location should be near a water source. If you have plenty of empty countertop space, you can also use that for your dispenser. You might also want to check sleek and compact under-sink designs if you have limited space at home.
  3. Maintenance. The best water dispensers are hygienic and easy to maintain. Some types may accumulate dirt faster, which means they’ll also need cleaning more often. Water dispensers usually require minimal upkeep. But since they’re used for storing drinking water, they must be cleaned regularly. Cleaning dispensers with high-quality filters may be easier. Before deciding to purchase, ask the supplier about maintenance requirements.
  4. Ease of use and safety. The dispenser should be easy-to-use and help you prevent spills and wastage. Modern options can be operated with the touch of a button. Aside from operation, you’ll also want to consider safety for peace of mind. For instance, you might want a model with a child lock and LED temperature display. If you’re concerned about energy consumption, check the size of the compressor and the average power usage of the dispenser.

A water dispenser can be a wise investment but remember that not all units are equal. You might be spending a little more initially, but that could mean bigger savings in the long run too.

Once you’ve decided which unit to purchase, check the supplier’s reputation. You’ll want an excellent water dispenser and reliable customer service. The team should be easy to contact should you have concerns regarding your unit.
