When it comes to video games, true gamers do not like to discriminate among different genres. We like them all, but we all do have our favourite genre, and for those of you who like RPGs, today we look at some of my favourite titles. Some of the readers might have already played these games. But for those who haven’t, you are in for a treat.

Nioh 2

Exclusive RPG saga for PS4 created by Team Ninja (authors of Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden, among others), that of Nioh is a less known series than those seen so far, but that has been able to carve out a place in the hearts of fans such. The game brings together established RPG practices and that action-soulslike transformation that began with From Software’s video games.

In a dark world reminiscent of Feudal Japan, populated by restless spirits called Yokai, the player plays a benign soul (customizable in appearance and fighting style) who must discover clues to his past. The story halfway between the prequel/sequel of the previous Nioh and updates both graphics and mechanics while also adding powers and abilities and the possibility of turning into a demon once enough Soul Cores is collected.

Finally, I recommend Nioh 2 even if you want to experience a multiplayer action RPG with a cooperative mode for up to 3 players.

Fallout 4 and Fallout 76

Launched in 2015, Fallout 4 is seen by the community as one of the most successful PlayStation 4 chapters of the historic Bethesda Game Studios series. The title is clearly an action RPG.

The Fallout 4 storyline catapults the player into the year 2287. In a post-apocalyptic setting called Commonwealth, the protagonist awakens inside Vault 111, where he had taken refuge following the launch of an atomic bomb 210 years earlier, in 2077. From then on, he will begin a long journey to discover what ‘happened to the protagonist’s family.

Fallout 4 has been much appreciated by RPG lovers, especially thanks to the immense game world, the enormous amount of content, and the plot’s ability to remain etched in the player’s mind. There is obviously an immense encyclopedia (in English) dedicated to the game.

Middle-earth: Shadow of War

Launched in 2017, Middle-earth, Shadow of War, an action RPG developed by Monolith Productions, is among the best video games set in the narrative universe of The Lord of the Rings.

The plot plays the role of Talion, a Gondorian wanderer also known as the Deathless. The latter is intent on carrying on the battle with Sauron. At the beginning of the game, a Power Ring infused with the elf’s spirit is forged, but from then on, some characters will want to own that item, and it will not be easy for Talion to retrieve it from the clutches of his enemies and fight the Orcs of Sauron.

The peculiar feature of the title and the one most appreciated by the community is the Nemesis System, a system capable of generating enemies and followers in a completely unexpected way. This gives life to characters with always different characteristics, making the experience lived by each player genuinely unique. There is, of course, the possibility of controlling your own army of Orcs.

The players particularly appreciated the campaign and the amount of content offered by the title. Middle-earth: Shadow of War is definitely a different RPG from what many users are used to. There is also an English encyclopedia made by fans of the game.

Path of Exile

To some of you, Path of Exile might look a bit odd in this list because of its different gameplay compared to the rest of the games on the list, not to mention it’s free to play, unlike the rest of them. Whatever the differences may be, it is an exciting game to play. Released in 2013 by Grinding Gear Games, it has been constantly updated by new expansions. The game is heavily influenced by the Diablo series, which is itself a fan favourite.

The plot of the game takes place in the dark fantasy world of Wraelcast. A continent on whose shores, the players wake up and have to navigate the barren and treacherous lands to progress in the game. You, as a player, can choose one of seven character classes—each with its own attributes and skills that compliment all playing styles. From strength to dexterity, it has it all. And as the game progresses, quests get more challenging, and monsters get stronger. So to combat them, you need to increase your attributes and skills. This is where items and gems come in. Equipping fantasy heirlooms and gems greatly enhance your skills. You can acquire these items either through quests and loot boxes or buy them off vendors who sell them for various poe currency ps4. Either way, it makes up for an exciting item based economy in the game, where players can buy and sell items. The game is very well balanced and fun to play.
