Aaron Finch smoked four final over sixes on Friday to save a respectable total for Australia in the fourth T20 against New Zealand.
New Zealand is 7-77 after 15 overs, chasing 157 for a series victory.
Kane Richardson claimed a key breakthrough for Australia in the eighth over as Tim Seifert chopped on to put New Zealand’s run chase in trouble. Glenn Maxwell then removed Kane Williamson just five balls later to pile the pressure on the hosts.
The wheels well and truly then started falling off for the Kiwis as a running mix-up saw Glenn Philipps dismissed for 1.
Having won the toss, Australia struggled with the bat and started the 19th over on 6-130, until Finch’s 26 runs in the final set pulled the tourists to 6-156.
The final over was bowled by towering quick Kyle Jamieson, who has struggled all series since being taken for $A2.66 million in the IPL auction.
“He’s been lacking confidence all series and he’s just serving up half-volleys there,” Mark Waugh said of Jamieson in the final over.
“I was surprised he was picked in this game. I thought his first three games were pretty sloppy.”
Jamieson has just one wicket all series at 175 runs, while his economy rate is a costly 11.66.
