Single Malt Whisky

Single malt whisky refers to a whisky that is produced by using a single malted grain, which is usually barley at a single distillery. Though single malt whiskies can be produced anywhere in the world, the countries like America, Ireland, Scotland, Japan, and Canada are the leading producers of the single malt. However, when it comes to consuming single malt whisky, then India is regarded as one of the leading whisky-consuming countries in the world.

The word ‘Single’ is the main reason behind most of the confusion and misunderstanding that people have about the Single Malt Whiskies. Single does not mean that the whisky comes from a single barrel or that it belongs to a single batch. Instead, it means that it is produced at a single distillery using a single grain. These whiskies are usually a blend of different barrel-aged whiskies produced in a single distillery. For example, The Glenlivet 18-Year-Old is a blend of various whiskies aged/matured in different barrels for a specific period.

Highland Park is usually regarded as one of the best single malt brands in the world. It has a few unique features that separate it from all its competitors. Its location is the most distinguishing feature of the brand. This blissful scotch whisky is produced/manufactured at a remote location in Orkney, making it Scotland’s northernmost distillery. Highland Park is usually matured in sherry-seasoned casks that give it a smoky-rich dried fruits flavour. Highland Park’s premium range of Scotch-Whisky includes the 10, 12 and 18-Year-Old Whiskies. The Brand also states that it does not add any colouring substance in its whiskies.

Indian Single Malt Whisky

In India, Amrut Single Malt Whisky holds the title of being the first single malt whisky to be ever produced in India. It was established in the year 1948. Though even today, the entire packaging of this blissful single malt is exported from different countries, the whisky, however, is entirely made in India. In 2010, the famous whisky connoisseur Jim Murray in his world-famous Whisky Bible conferred the title of the world’s third finest whisky on Amrut Fusion Single Malt. Apart from this, it has also won the Liquid Gold Award. Amrut Single Malt is made from variants of barley grown in the northwest region of the country. It has a nutty, malty and biscuity taste as it is aged in Ex-bourbon and new American oak casks before being bottled. In order to capture the natural characteristics and aroma of the oak, the filter is not chilled. However, the sales of this brand are not only limited to India, it is in popular demand in all of Europe. It was first launched in Scotland in the year 2004 and in 2005 it was launched in the entire Europe region. The 750ml bottle of Amrut Single Malt is priced around ₹3200/- in India.
