“If you live in an apartment, it’s possible the landlord has a plan to offer you. If you don’t have this document, you can take the measurements yourself and make a simple drawing. With a plan in hand, it’s much easier to visualize the space and find a distribution that works for you”, explains Sara.
2. Give preference to multi functional furniture
An essential tip is to choose furniture and pieces that have more than one function, so you don’t need to fill the house with furniture. “The best thing is to invest in designed and multifunctional furniture to take advantage of spaces. A good tip is to use shelves and niches to replace cabinets”, advises Rosa.
Planned furniture is a great choice, as the pieces will be made-to-measure for each environment and will also have specific features and functions for each type of person. Furniture with wheels also helps a lot in small environments, as they can move around quickly and efficiently.
Sara suggests furniture with a leaner design, which can fit inside other furniture or even folding ones. Sara says that small rooms are not synonymous with completely white places without any touch of color, but she explains that lighter colors give a feeling of spaciousness and lightness. “It is not necessary for everything to be clear, but prefer light colors in the most dominant elements, such as floors, walls and large furniture such as sofas, cabinets and beds. Touches of color appear in the complements and give personality to the environment. The secret is to have a clear environment, but with points of color to highlight”.
Rosa reinforces the theory and says that using light colors on furniture and walls helps a lot to expand spaces. Therefore, for these places, give preference to shades of white, ice, beige, off white, cream, pastels, etc. “When using wood in coverings or floors, also opt for light tones”, he adds.
