Enoxaparin injection is administered for the purpose of preventing blood clotting, mainly in the leg of the persons who are on bed rest for going through either hip replacement, abdominal surgery or knee replacement. Enoxaparin belongs to the heparin class of medicines of less molecular weight. The main purpose of enoxaparin is to stop the formation of blood clots from any substance.

The enoxaparin drug is a blood thinner. This drug is not administered independently just by itself. Enoxaparin is given to the patient along with aspirin or warfarin. Combining with aspirin helps preventing any complicated chest pain or heart attacks and the combination with warfarin is used to treat any kind of blood clots.

Enoxaparin drugs are available with a syringe for administering the drug. Other than drug stores, enoxaparin injection suppliers might also help in emergencies. It is injected just below the subcutaneous tissue of the skin and not in the muscle. It is recommended to inject this drug with the help of a trained and experienced person. Enoxaparin is generally started from the hospital with a prescription to follow for 10 to 14 days.

Any blood thinner such as enoxaparin should be injected with caution, maintaining the correct dosage. Even if the receiver starts recovering and feels better, enoxaparin should not be stopped without anticipation of the doctor. In case of any allergic reaction to heparin or enoxaparin, it should be communicated with the doctor. The enoxaparin drug can also be used for some other purposes, as per the physician\’s recommendation.

Precautions
Because of being a blood thinner, enoxaparin should be administered with care and caution. The following points should be remembered before injecting the drug.

  •  The hands of the healthcare personnel and the location of pushing in the drug should be cleaned and sterilised properly.
  •  After loading the drug in the syringe, the drug should be checked if it is colourless and clear. Enoxaparin might also appear to be pale yellow.
  •  After taking off the needle cap, handle the syringe carefully, so that no air can get inside. Again before pushing the drug, do not push the syringe to take out the medicine unless it is asked to.
  • On the site of injecting the needle, pinch and fold the skin between the thumb and another finger. Then the needle should be pushed entirely into the skin and push the syringe plunger for injecting the drug inside the body. The skin should be held the entire time of giving the shot and the site of injection should not be rubbed.

Side Effects
Enoxaparin might cause a few side effect on the receiver. These side effects might be characterised by an upset stomach, high fever or irritation or inflammation at the site where the injection is pushed, abnormal and unusual bleeding, bloody or black stools, bleeding while urinating, swollen feet or ankle etc. The physician should be consulted umm if any of the symptoms are noticed.

In very rare cases, this drug also reduces the platelets level in the blood. Hyper dosage of enoxaparin might result in fatal situations. Therefore administering this drug under the supervision of a health worker is highly recommended.
