There’s a poem written in the 1800s by John Greenleaf Whitier – Don’t Quit. Though there’s hardly anything common between life back then and life today, the words of this poem still hold true. The very first line says it all, “When things go wrong as they sometimes will….” If you’re looking at being an achiever against all odds, read this poem and make it your anthem – Don’t Quit. Each of us has unique challenges before us. The poor man may think that the rich man has it all but even he has challenges and hurdles to clear. However, the tools used to overcome these challenges may be the same for everyone.

achiever against all odds

Start the day with a calm mind

The way you start the day influences how the rest of your day will go. If you wake up feeling tense and worried, your entire day will probably pass with you feeling restless and you won’t get much done. On the other hand, start the day with a relaxed mind and you’ll be able to schedule in plenty of things. To achieve this, try and follow a sleep schedule. Go to sleep and wake up at the same time. Late nights are not helpful. When you wake up, set aside 15 minutes to half an hour to meditate and calm your senses. This will put you in a positive frame of mind and get you set for a great day.

Surround yourself with positive people

When things around you are difficult, sympathy feels good but it isn’t very helpful. Instead, you need someone who will help you get over it and find a solution. To do this you need to have a positive mindset and more importantly, you need to surround yourself with likeminded positive people. Find mentors who can guide you and see solutions that you may otherwise have ignored. Your mentor could be anyone – a colleague, a  teacher, a friend – the only criteria is that they should be problem solvers no problem creators.

Pay attention to your health

Pay attention to the food you eat and your lifestyle. To be an achiever against all odds you must be healthy. That’s when you can push yourself to be productive and work hard. How can you expect your mind to see the silver lining when you’re feeling dull and lethargic? Set aside time every day to exercise and as mentioned above, follow a sleep schedule. When you’re healthy, you will automatically be able to work harder and achieve more.

In addition to the points above, most importantly, be kind to yourself and you will be an achiever against all odds. When you have setbacks as everyone will from time to time, don’t give up or berate yourself. Take time to recoup and reattack the situation in a different way. Remember, there is no one path to success. What works for someone else may not work for you so don’t judge yourself against everyone else’s success. Just stay true to your goal, work hard and success will surely be yours.
