The alpha state of mind is when you reach a very relaxed state while awake. Your brain begins to emit alpha waves instead of beta, which is what you emit when you’re fully awake. Alpha waves create a sense of peace and well-being in your mind and body. When people are in this state, they seem to exude charisma as their mind focuses only on the here and now. This is also the state when athletes and other performers are at their best — also known as being “in the zone” or the “flow state.”

To enter the alpha state of mind, start by getting relaxed, and then move on to different techniques that can get you in the alpha state of mind, including deep breathing and visualizations. Another good way is doing alpha state of mind meditation. After you relax your mind for the alpha state, it’s up to you which method you use to achieve it, though it’s a good idea to incorporate deep breathing in any other method you choose.

One way to do it is through the long-term alpha state of mind meditation practice. Going to the alpha level or centering is the same as meditating. When someone meditates, scientifically, they are simply reducing their brain wave frequency to alpha. The Alpha level is the level we use to activate our minds.

When we are anxious and stressed, we don’t want to wait years for mental clarity. Instead, here are some shortcuts:

 

  • Drinking tea

Specifically, you need to drink black, green, or white tea, all of which naturally contain a substance called Theanine. Drinking just two cups of green tea (thanks to the Theanine) significantly generates alpha brain waves and moves you into a state of relaxed alertness.

 

  • Aerobic exercise

For example, a 30-minute morning run would clear and relax the mind for the full day ahead. Yoga has also been proven to significantly increase alpha brain waves.

 

  • Specially-designed music

Listen to some isochronic tones and binaural beats to help quickly tune your brain to the alpha state. Brainwaves include many specified brain wave music and sounds for tuning your mind to the alpha state if you listen regularly.

 

  • Deep breathing

Alternate between normal breaths and deep breaths. While you’re getting the feel for deep breathing, try going back and forth. Breathe normally for a breath or two, and then switch to taking a slow, deep breath.
