What is it? Dyson’s first attempt at a robot vacuum cleaner is probably the company’s most advanced vacuum cleaner yet. It has four rotating brushes, along with a suction unit and all-wheel-drive system. The 360 Eye weighs just 7kg (15lb) and can run for up to two hours at a time. Should I buy it? Dyson is one of the world’s most established brands, and its robot vacuum cleaners have always been among the best. The 360 Eye is no exception, and as long as you can accommodate its gargantuan size it will find its way under your cupboards, and clean up after your pets.

Dyson 360 Eye Design and build quality

The 360 Eye is a heavy duty, flat-pack robot vacuum. There’s no assembly required. This has its ups and downs – it certainly makes for a simple cleaning experience, but it can’t climb up on to stairs. A simple motorised slider makes it easy to pull out or put in, but you can only drive forward and backwards. And if you want to reverse it around, you need to take the power cord out of the body of the robot vacuum, which is a pain in the bum, as that makes it too awkward to change direction. As a result of this flat-pack approach, it’s rather tricky to reassemble, as you can’t use the main body with the added wheels to push it back in again.

Dyson 360 Eye Maintenance

A few months after the original 360 Eye arrived in the UK, Dyson has released a software update which extends its clean range and optimises its steering to ensure you get the best cleaning performance. You’ll find full details of what is and isn’t included in the update, along with links to the Dyson app to download, over at Dyson.com/UK. We found that not all the design tweaks were all that successful, however, so we’ve run them through our labs for you to find out how they fared. Dyson 360 Eye Smartphone App

One of the highlights of the 360 Eye is the ability to use Dyson’s app to set up a cleaning schedule, control the 360 Eye remotely and perform a number of other functions. You can even connect a power cable, so that the 360 Eye can be easily controlled from your smartphone, even when it’s switched off. There are no IFTTT or integration into Alexa, so this won’t make your virtual assistant act like your robot vacuum cleaner, but it’s a nice touch nonetheless.
