I am new to wet shaving and shaving in general. If I wanted to change styles or take the beard down I always just used a beard trimmer. Over the summer I decided to cut the beard off, and just grow a mustache and a couple of weeks ago decided that using a beard trimmer on the rest of my face, while keeping the stubble really short, just didn’t look as clean as Id like. I bought Harry’s razor, it was okay, then immediately jumped into wet shaving. Purchased the drug store special: Van Der Hagen…not super impressed with the fit and finish, and the blades pull too much and on my neck especially really irritate the hell out of my skin.

Everyone is different so it may take some experimenting with blades until you find the one right for you. Perhaps a sample pack would be best if the sharks don’t work out. I have pretty coarse hair, and from what I’ve heard, feather blades are the sharpest but because of my lack of experience, I don’t wanna cut myself too badly.

Why do I always have red areas right under my lip area? I try not to buff. I use decent products. Proraso pre-shave a variety of creams and I use good blades. My favorite being personal blues. When I shave my beard down after 6 weeks using a beard trimmer that area is still reddish. Could it be genetic? I’ve missed some areas but I felt I was starting to over shave. My goatee area is so coarse it’s hard to get everything.

The Art of Shaving with stubble trimmer

I just trimmed off almost 2 months of a beard. I took my hair trimmer and took my time around 30 mins and it was done. My face now feels like a 3 to 4 days growth which I’ll do the final shave tonight. Read our full review of the best beard trimmer for stubble to fully appreciate the prestige of these premium trimmers.

Here’s the setup I’ve been using for a couple of years now: The Art of Shaving badger hair brush & shaving puck; Bulldog weighted bamboo handle razor with disposable blades (5 blades with trimmer); & the Shea Moisture three butters pre-shave oil along with the Shea Moisture after-shave elixir. I used to hate the chore of shaving, then I was introduced to the proper method of wet shaving. I’ve loved maintaining my face since.
