5G Technology Gaining Full Speed

People have heard about 5G, but few really understand what it is. There are even many conspiracy theories surrounding it.

 

5G is simply a faster way to transmit data over the internet. With a 5G network, you can experience data transfer speeds of up to 20 GBPS in downloading and up to 10 GBPS in uploading. We are now talking gigabytes per second—gone are the days when the internet was only working at megabytes per second.

 

The 5G technology is currently being led by Switzerland. South Korea and the USA are trailing behind. 5G is primarily a mobile technology. It aims to speed up data transfers from the servers to the telecommunications to the phones. It all started with 1G, and the world is now currently at 4G. With 5G, the internet will be able to connect everyone, including machines, appliances and devices. The communication between these machines is so fast that the wait time for data transfer is significantly reduced.

 

Once 5G is put in place, it can transform our lives. From here, we can now have access to virtual reality. We will have lower latency periods, making it easier to contact somebody or download a movie or stream stuff from the internet. The 5G technology will also make it easier for WiFi appliances to interact faster with their servers and give data to the users.

Tactile VR

The second on our list is called Tactile VR. It is still a virtual reality, but with emphasis to touch. What it means is that once this technology becomes available, you will “feel” what you touch on a computer screen or virtual reality environment.

 

Today, we only use virtual reality and augmented reality. For VR, we only “see” and what we see seems real. Augmented Reality or AR makes us “move” with what is happening on our computer screen. AR is popularly known as “4D” and is often used in theatres in theme parks—the seats move as the movie “moves.”

 

With Tactile VR, you will feel what is happening on-screen. If you touched something hot in a computer game, you would feel that it was hot. Right now, the only sensation we feel is from gaming consoles—they vibrate if something important is happening to a game. Now, some people think that Sophia is controlled. Well, that is not always the case. Sophia can work autonomously if the developers allow “her” to do so. On some occasions, her language and communication are guided by her creators.

 

Sophia is the most current and most advanced robot that we have right now. However, she is limited to talking and thinking only. She still does not have the capability to “work” or move. Today, the focus of scientists, engineers and software developers is her ability to think. They are working so hard to master her capabilities in cognitive technology, philosophy and even storytelling. Over a period of time, we can expect that Sophia’s brains will be mixed with the ability to move and do real human tasks.
