eye lashesSemi-permanent fibers are used to join eyelash extensions to your natural eyelashes. They could make your lash line appear longer, thicker and darker. Semi-permanent glue can be used to join the individual extensions to the natural eyelashes. The type of material used varies from studio to studio however, flat lash extensions can be made of synthetic, mink, faux mink, or silk fibers. A lot of studios provide clients with a range of extensions curly patterns, tints and lengths to customize the look of their clients.

Different types of eyelash extensions

Three kinds of eyelash extensions are utilized by artists who make eyelashes: silk synthetic, and mink. The faux mink extensions are available at some studios. These extensions are similar to mink extensions, but are actually synthetic. Many salons have a preference in what kind of lash extensions they utilize but will not necessarily ask you to specify your preference. So if you’re vegan or allergic to cats, make certain to request specifically that mink lash extensions not applied to you. Each type of lash extensions lasts longer than another types, however silk and mink lashes tend to have a more natural look and synthetic lashes tend to be darker and thicker, which is better suited for those wanting a bolder look.

What are the steps to apply?

Lash extensions are carefully applied one at a time (typically 80-140 per eye) using a specially-formulated, semi-permanent glue that will not irritate or damage the natural lash. Only the lashes that are already in place are treated with the lash extension, and not the skin. Although the exact process will vary from salon to Salon and may be different, here are some guidelines:

Evaluation

Prior to applying the extensions before applying, the technician needs to go through all the risks and benefits of having eyelash extensions before applying them. They should also inquire about any health conditions you may have that make eyelash extensions not suitable for you. They’ll also request that you remove your contacts if wear them.

Choose the length of your extension and curl Strength

The lash artist will begin with asking what kind of look you want which could be more glamorous or more natural. Based on your desired look then you’ll pick the best length and the strength of curl you want for your extensions. Your stylist may choose to employ 3-4 different lengths extensions. It is recommended to focus longer extensions toward the corners of your eyes, and shorter ones towards the inside of the eyes.

Eye Cleansing: Eye Area

The artist will ask you to lay down so that they can ensure you are at ease. They’ll then scrub the area to remove all oil and makeup. Your artist will appreciate it that you do not wear any makeup on the day you schedule your appointment.

Apply the Eye Gels and Tape

Your eyes are closed for the duration of the procedure, which generally takes between 1 and 2 hours, depending on the length of extensions your eyelash artist applies. Your lash artist will apply an under-eye gel along the lower line of your lashes. This will keep your lower eyelashes from blocking the application, as well as provide a background against which to work. The eye gels are secured using medical-grade tape.

Application

The artist using your lashes will use tweezers to dip each extension into the glue, then apply it to your individual eyelash. One eyelash extensions glue extension is generally placed on each natural lash. However, more elaborate styles may require more extensions. The application isn’t painful, although you may be anxious when you see tweezers operating in close proximity to your eyes when they’re closed.

Drying

The lash glue is able to dry very quickly, but your lash artist will likely have you sit for around 10 minutes after all the extensions are in place. Some lash artists prefer to use a small hand-held fan at your extensions to increase the time to dry while some prefer to let the glue dry in air. At this point the eyes remain closed.

Remove the Tape and Gels

Your lash artist will clean the gels and tapes under your eyes when your lashes are dry completely. Once removed, your eyelash artist is likely to brush through the lashes with an spooly. You’ll then be asked to slowly blink your eyes to open. Et voila!

Lash extensions work plain and straightforward. They can add volume to almost all eyelashes, meaning you’ll wake up with longer dark, longer, and thicker lashes — but not without paying the price. Extensions cost money and even if you follow the rules in regards to post-care there’s a chance that you’ll sustain some damage to your natural lashes, which could include breakage or fallout.
