Flooring is one of those things that a lot of people don’t give a lot of thought to. After all, with some exceptions, how often are we looking down at our feet? What is Epoxy Flooring?
You may be familiar with epoxy, at least as a term. Epoxy is a two-part chemical system consisting of polymers and hard nurse. The polymers, or resins, are the actual coding themselves, while partners are chemical catalysts that cause it to become a solid surface.
Epoxies are used for a number of purposes, such as patching in various structural restorations, adhesive processes and much more. Certain types of 3-D printing also utilize a type of epoxy system, producing a very tough, cost effective form of manufacturing.
When it comes to epoxy flooring, there are a number of advantages. First and foremost, epoxy is tough stuff, meaning it will hold up against scratches and other forms of damage over long periods of time. It won’t lose its luster is quickly as something easily eroded such as ceramics, linoleum, or even various stones like travertine. Travertine, while quite gorgeous, is notorious for its tendency to lose its luster and acquire a lot of scratches.
Epoxy flooring is also more resistant to etching, another problem that ceramics in stone are prone to. Etching is the result of certain types of highly reactive or acidic compounds eating away at the surface of the flooring. Epoxy, as a matter fact, is often used to repair this etching in these floors!
On top of this, it’s resistant to staining, and is very easy to clean and maintain. On top of this, it’s far more affordable than ceramics or stone, and with modern processes, it can even imitate these materials aesthetically. That’s right, there exist methods to make epoxy flooring look like travertine, marble, granite or any manner of other things.
Choosing Good Epoxy Roofing Contractors
Here’s the thing. It’s not just about laying down the epoxy and hardware, though that in and of itself is definitely a skill. The epoxy flooring is only going to be a solid as the cement work it’s late on top of, so when choosing your flooring company, it’s best to choose one who actually works with the cement itself as well. Cement prep and cement setting are definitely a craft, and if it’s not done right, it will crack. Unfortunately, Epoxy Flooring Contractors Prevent the substrate beneath it from cracking, crumbling or being uneven.
Be sure that you choose a flooring company that definitely knows what they’re doing, and when doing your research, make sure they discuss cement work on their site. If you do this, you can’t really go wrong with epoxy flooring. It’s not very heavily used in residential settings, but I expect that to change drastically in the near future.
