Low carbon content and resistance to acidic environments characterize 316L. It also has a high tensile strength and a low elongation rate. Additionally, it is resistant to corrosion and simple to weld and process using conventional fabrication shop techniques. However, it struggles in incredibly hot temperatures.

Austenitic stainless steel with molybdenum is known as stainless steel grade 316. Mo increases the material’s high temperature strength and corrosion resistance. The temperature range for this metal is between 1200 and 1300 degrees Fahrenheit. As a result, 316 is a very adaptable material and a great option for applications requiring a high level of corrosion resistance.

Applications of Stainless Steel 316 Plate

 

The high-quality material stainless steel 316 plate is perfect for use in industrial, marine, and harsh environments. Excellent formability and corrosion resistance are both present. It is a preferred option for welded heavy-gauge applications because it has a lower carbon content than many other steels.

Three grades of stainless steel 316 plate are offered. The austenitic 304 grade, which is used in chemical processing equipment, has an 18% chromium content and an 8% nickel content. For high-temperature applications, grade 316H, which has a higher carbon content, is used. The stabilized 316Ti grade is also sensitization-free.

Full-size and custom cut lengths of 316 stainless steel plate are offered. It is utilized in cryogenic settings, petroleum, food and beverage processing, and equipment for chemical processing. 316 is more durable than 304 and offers excellent resistance to oxidation and corrosion. 316 is a great option for applications where metal is highly corrosive because it is also non-magnetic.

The environment’s salt and chloride resistance of 316 stainless steel is excellent. Its resistance to corrosion is increased by the molybdenum and nickel content. Instruments for surgery are frequently made of it. Marine environments are another setting where 316 stainless steel is used.
