Here are some things you should know about rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty is very popular.
Many reasons people choose to have nose surgery. Some people are unhappy with the appearance of their inherited nose. Some people may have suffered an injury to the nose that altered their nose shape. To improve their breathing, some people opt for rhinoplasty.
There are two types of rhinoplasty: reduction which reduces the size of your nose and augmentation which increases it. Your circumstances may determine whether you are eligible for NHS rhinoplasty. The procedure can be performed privately if it is for cosmetic reasons.
There are many ways that a surgeon can change the appearance and shape of your nose.
- Modify the angle of your nose and lips
- Straightening a Crooked septum – This is the central structure of your nose
- Modifying the bridge, nostrils, or tip of your nose
General anesthesia is used for nose jobs. It may be possible to use local sedation. The technique chosen will determine the length of the procedure. Each nose job is custom-tailored for each patient. There is no one-size fits all procedure.

You may need to remain in hospital for several days after the operation. Most likely, you will be sent home with dressings or splints around your nose. These should be kept in place for 7-10 days. You may experience some swelling around the eyes. It should disappear within 2-3 weeks. You should be able return to work in 2 to 3 weeks. You may not be able to fully function again for up to a month. Sometimes it may take months or even years for the swelling to subside. It may take some time before your nose adjusts to the new look. Even small changes can make a big difference to your nose and skin.
