Fasting In Muharram

Fasting in Muharram is to remember the Battle of Karbala. As Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) said:

“The best of fasting after the month of Ramadan is fasting Allah’s given time of Muharram.”

Fasting this month allows us to remember the long stretch of Muharram. There are a lot of deeds and rewards mentioned in the Quran regarding this month’s fasting.

The Day of Ashoora

The main day of the month Muharram is the day of Ashoora. It comes on the 10th day of the Month. It is the day when the Battle of Karbala happened and Imam Hussain RA was martyred. It has a very broad history and everything is explained bypassing minutes. Our Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is also very concerned about this month. As Ibn Abbas (RA) described:

”I have never seen Prophet (PBUH) more concerned about fasting than on the day of Ashura and in the month of Muharram.”

If you’re a Muslim and want to save yourself from all the sins of the last year, you should Fast and make Dua for your Magfirat. If Muslim wishes to accomplish reparation, fast during the arrival of Ashoora. In this way, Allah (SWT) will protect you from making sins throughout the year.

Muharram Significance around the World

As Muslims, we have to understand the Importance of this month on our own. Mostly in many Islamic counties, it is a Public Holiday. At the Government level, the state organizes a safe passage to the rally. Some distribute food and other basic things among the others.
