First, it is explored how sample thickness affects the perforation resistance of aluminium plates. The maximum resistance to perforation was reached using 4 mm thick panels since it was proved that the perforation behavior of the tested plates rises with the target thickness. Aluminium 6061 Plates To examine how the projectile shapes affected the perforation behavior, several impactor head shapes were used to strike the aluminium plates.
The results showed that flattened impactors used to strike plates offer the greatest resistance against perforation. Additionally, the outcomes demonstrated that altering the targets’ sizes did not significantly alter the dynamic behavior of the plates that were the subject of this investigation.
Last but not least, it is proposed that the finite element models created in this work be used to capture the effect of the geometry and loading characteristics of aluminium plates subjected to low-velocity impact perforation.
