Eligibility criteria for the RPL pathway

The candidates who don’t have ICT qualifications can write RPL reports to demonstrate their IT competency. There are two types of candidates who can use the RPL pathway: 

  • If you are without an ICT qualification, you need to have 6 years of relevant work experience.

ACS RPL report format: 

You can find the RPL Project Report Form available on the ACS website. In this form, you need to enter the details of your project. This form has two parts that you need to submit (see below):

  • Essential ICT Knowledge

Part 2: The RPL Project Report: 

An RPL project report sums up the projects you were involved in and shows off your skills as an ICT specialist. Every project must be completed by an expert in ICT. Your RPL project report must show demonstrate your clear understanding of the subject area shown in Section 1. ACS needs you to submit two copies of the RPL project report. One should be from the past 3 years and the other one before the last five years.

  1. You must choose your project after careful consideration. In fact, choose a project allowing you to demonstrate your knowledge and skills effectively and convincingly. Remember that your work experience and responsibilities must be in harmony with the ANZSCO code you chose to apply for. 
  2. Provide ACS with the details about the project, the name of your project and the affiliated company. In addition, mention your designated role in each of the projects in your report.

  4. Explain the methods you applied in the System Analysis and Design of each project development. 
  5. Provide the name of the programming languages used in the project to demonstrate your programming skills. 
  6. Include all the database management techniques implemented in the project to demonstrate your DBMS skills. 
  7. Describe ICT managerial activities to demonstrate the nature and extent of your responsibilities and competencies. 
  8. Include project management and quality assurance techniques that were followed in the project development. Doing so will let you showcase your managerial skills. In addition, explain the security mechanisms that were implemented in the project for an ACS skill assessment. 

ACS Work experience deduction factors: 

The factors for work experience deduction are below: 

  • If your skills and qualification don’t harmonize with the ones in the ANZSCO code
  • The bachelor’s degree completion year 
  • Your subject of speciality 
  • Relevancy of the work and skills you learned in work according to the ANZSCO code 
  • In addition, if your degree or ACS qualifications are already there, it will be an extra advantage for you. Thus, no deductions will happen. 

Common reasons for ACS RPL report rejection

Plagiarism: You must write your report in your own words, and check your report for plagiarism many times. It is because you may have unintentional plagiarism. 

Irrelevancy: Your work experience and duties must harmonize with the occupation you have chosen to apply for. So, ensure relevancy before you submit your report. 

Lack of work experience: The assessment of employment before and after the qualification is seen differently. So, review your employment history thoroughly. Only one employment episode is acceptable at a time if it is completed concurrently with another employment. 

The type of employment satisfying the eligibility requirements is skilled employment, as per ACS. However, for the skilled migration point, only that kind of work experience is accepted.
