The Industrial and Management Engineering (IME) department at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur was founded in 1974. The IME M Tech programmer has a total of 26 students enrolled. The total admission for the two-year MBA programmer is 78 students. Both undergraduate and graduate degrees, BS./B Tech + MBA or B.S./B Tech+M Tech, are available through the dual degree programmers at IME IIT. For students with prior job experience, a two-year Ph.D. programmer is available.

  • The M Tech programmer accepts new students twice a year. Candidates must hold an engineering bachelor’s degree or a master’s degree in science with at least a 55% grade point average.
  • GATE results are used to shortlist candidates for the M Tech programmer, and then a written exam and personal interview are held.
  • For admission to MBA program, candidate must hold an undergraduate degree from any recognized university with minimum 65% aggregate.
  • Admission to the IME IIT Kanpur MBA course is done on the basis of the CAT score followed by a Group Discussion and personal interview round.
  • Admission to Ph.D. generally opens in June and December every year.
  • Candidates applying for the Ph.D. program should have a master’s degree in Management/Industrial engineering with at least 55% marks or a bachelor’s degree in engineering with at least 75% marks and a valid GATE score.
  • For the Ph.D. program, candidates are shortlisted based on their marks and work experience.

IME, IIT Kanpur MBA Admissions

A group discussion and personal interview round are conducted after the CAT score (85% percentage and above for candidates in the general category and 75% percentage for SC and ST applicants) is taken into consideration for admission to the MBA programmer.

A minimum cumulative grade point average of 65% in Class X, XII, and the relevant degree (55% for SC/ST applicants) is required for the candidate to earn an undergraduate degree from any university / institute (with Mathematics as one of the mandatory programmers either in degree or in class XII).

IME IIT Kanpur Selection Criteria

  • The CAT scores, together with the Class 10 and Class 12 results, qualifying degree marks, and job experience, are used to shortlist candidates for the GD-PI round.
  • On the basis of their grades in the prerequisite degree, CAT score, and prior job experience, eligible candidates are selected for the Group Discussion and Personal Interview round. Candidates who have been shortlisted are then notified of the GD-PI round.
  • Candidates falling under various categories are given separate merit lists.
  • Candidates who will be taking the final degree exam may also apply.
  • SC/ST candidates must have a minimum cumulative CAT percentile of 75 as well as 55% in Class X, XII, and their qualifying degree.
