After watching all the noise and anger in Egypt, along with all the commentary, TV shows, videos showing book for kids chaos and controversy on almost every news channel, it occurred to me that just like you, I just need a little peace and quiet with you would like to know. How do you leave me alone? Interestingly, having peace and quiet is important, and it is very important to the human biosystem . Everyone needs sleep and rest and it affects us all at a cellular level whether we realize it or not.

In human societies, you don’t need riots, protests, marches, shouting, or civil commotion with the throwing of animal gas bombs, Molotov cocktails, or sticks and stones to break the peace, we have noise around us every day, and it’s not healthy , not even a little. Think of aircraft noise, train tracks, horns, machines, kitchen appliances, air conditioning and engines of trucks, cars, motorcycles and the like.

There is an interesting book on this subject that I would strongly recommend to you, the name of the book is;

“Technology for a Calmer America” by the Technology for a Calmer America Committee; National Academy of Engineering, Washington DC, (2010), pages 216, ISBN: 978-0-309-15632-5.

This book really gets into the details and makes some excellent points about what we can do to find some peace and quiet. I’m not talking about library levels down, but why not take the decibels down 10-20 points as it could help us all have a better quality of life. In the introduction of the book, in the summary, in the very first paragraph it says;

Exposure to noise (ie, unwanted or potentially dangerous sounds) at home, work, travel, and recreational activities is a fact of life for all Americans. Sometimes noise can be loud enough to damage hearing, and at lower levels it can disrupt normal life, affect sleep patterns, affect our ability to concentrate at work, interfere with outdoor recreation, and in some cases disrupt communication and even cause accidents. It is clear that exposure to excessive noise can affect our quality of life.

I contend that it takes friction to make noise and friction is energy, in fact it is wasted energy. If we design and build better devices that don’t make noise, we automatically use less energy. That means less power consumption and less fuel. It also means lower costs, and that means lower costs in everything we buy or use.

Think about it for a moment. And while we’re at it, we should collect the noise whenever it’s there, perhaps using magnetic induction children’s quiet books principles to collect vibrations to power batteries for later use. Please consider all of this and let us hear about your inventions and innovations to reduce all this noise!
