The Canon PIXMA MX922 Wireless Inkjet Office Printer was launched in 2013, 10 years back, but it’s still considered one of the best duplex printers in this budget. It’s one of the products from the PIXMA family and a close cousin of the PIXMA MX522. MX922 has all the features available in the MX522 and some extra features, including better print quality, higher paper capacity, and the ability to print on optical discs. All these features make MX922 an ideal choice for home and micro office printers.

In this blog, we will discuss the pros and cons of MX922. And should you go for it or the new models available in the market.

Why Should You Go For MX922?

MX922 Wireless Inkjet Office Printer can work as an independent copier and fax machine. It can print, scan and fax any document. It is one of the older versions of inkjet printers that offers both Ethernet and Wi-Fi support. MX922 also has a duplexer, a letter-size flatbed, and an ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) for scanning. It turns the page over to scan the second side in duplex mode. Compared to MX522, its ADF has a slightly higher paper feeding capacity of 35 sheets than its 250 paper holding capacity.

Setup Process

Connecting MX922 to a network is very simple. The setup is simple; when you insert the ink cartridge into the Printer, a light goes on, which means the Printer has recognized the ink cartridge. Then you have to insert a particular alignment page into the Printer and let it run for about 7 minutes. You need to download the Canon Print app onto your mobile device, then you need to enter the password manually, and you are all set to go. The app supports both Apple AirPrint and Google Cloud Print. You can also connect this Printer via a USB cable. You need to install the drivers and software on your Windows and macOS.

Some Canon Printers come with Wireless PictBridge features for wireless printing from a camera, but it only works with specific Canon cameras. Mobile printing is possible through Google Cloud Print and Apple AirPrint. To use AirPrint, you need to connect your Printer, phone, or tablet through the Wi-Fi network.

Speed

Many consider MX922 printing speed its weakest point, with a sluggish pace of 2.4 pages per minute (ppm). It is just a little faster than the MX522 model, which has a speed of 2.1 ppm. But with optimized quality settings, you can get up to 15 ISO PPM (Monochrome) and 10 ISO PPM (Color) from MX922. Its reasonably fast speed for photos, which is 1 minute and 5 seconds for printing, makes up for the slow pace. Due to its duplex scanning feature, the optical scanner supports two-sided document scanning. The scanner is fast enough, and you can get a scanned copy of any document within seconds.

Print Quality

The print quality will depend upon the type of ink cartridge. Although this Canon printer is robust and ink efficient, its original ink cartridges are expensive. So if you are planning to use an ink cartridge of another brand, you should check whether the ink cartridge you have chosen is compatible with your Printer.

MX922 also offers enough paper capacity, so you don’t need to refill the paper tray constantly. For color prints, you need to select up to 9600×2400 DPI, and for scanning, you must select up to 4800 x 2400 DPI. The separate photo tray can hold up to 20 sheets of 4×6-inch photo paper. It lets you switch between printing photos and printing on plain paper without having to interchange the paper in the tray.

Regarding graphic quality, the text quality was just a few points below the top tier for inkjets, which is good enough for most business needs, and PowerPoint handouts. However, we don’t recommend using the text output for a resume or severe desktop publishing applications. Photo quality was in the top tier for low-cost inkjets. The photo prints are most suitable for drugstore prints.

Conclusion

When considering everything, MX922 is a good printer if you find it for a reasonable price below $350. Even at this price point, numerous options from different brands are available, and MX922 still manages to beat most of the good ones.

If you find this Printer at this price point, you can definitely go for it. Its output quality, paper quality, and additional features, such as Duplexing ADF, are more than enough to make up for its lackluster printing speed. For most home, home office, and small office use, MX922 is fast enough, but if you want to print a lot of pages at a rapid speed, then you need to look for another model.
