How Did I Get Stood Up Last Night?

Author Alicia Steel, 4 years ago | 3 min read | 93

I’ve been on bad dates, gone thru bad relationships, and have placed myself into poor dating situations; however, I don’t recall the last time I’ve been stood up on a date. Last night was a very frustrating reminder of what that meant. While movies often show some love-struck soul, waiting at a restaurant for their date to appear; I would like to believe this situation happens less frequently in real life. In today’s age of being able to “check-in” from space, how hard is it for someone to send the message, “I won’t be able to make it”? The answer, not very hard!

So last night’s date was pure befuddlement.

So how, exactly, did I get stood up on last night’s date? I’m not entirely sure, but I am willing to recognize a few possibilities. Over the last month any woman (most of them platonic), have developed a sudden case of “something has come up!” Most of them have been serious pressing matters that excluded them from being able to make lunch, drinks, or other social events. Most, if not, all of these cases were understandable, and usually followed with a message describing the situation. I’m going to assume last night date has also been affected by this affliction, but a message would have been nice, if not warranted.

However, the rest of these possibilities range from the dire (such as my date getting hit by a bus); to the absurd (my date got abducted by aliens, this is the fifth time they have done this to me!); to the unacceptable and disrespectful (she forgot). I could continue the guessing games, but lets live in some reality. In the day of iPhones, Twitter, and mobile browsing from everywhere, there should have been some form of communication. No one should be stood up, ever. That’s the point of a mobile phone, 3G, WiFi, and internet cafe’s. Being stood up on a date should be on the same extinct list as dinosaurs, and the dodo bird. So how the hell did this rare animal make’s its presence in last night’s date? You tell me!
