Relocating to a new place is exciting but can be really hectic if you are low on budget and want to move. You need to look through a lot of things to not leave anything behind or to move very smoothly without big efforts. No matter if you are relocating around the street, city, or country, you will have to plan almost the same. It is recommended that if you are moving a long way then hire some professionals but if you have decided to relocate by yourself only then you must look through certain things. Here are some ‘Dos’ and ‘Don’ts’ for you to know when planning your move.

Do’s

  • Plan early where you want to move. Look if the place you are looking for is suitable for you to live or not or when do you have time at the certain period of the month to move.
  • DE clutter your belongings whatever you want to take and what you do not. Sometimes you will have to take into consideration the size of your move in comparison to the size of your new home or sometimes you have to see how old your furniture is and if it is really smart to move it all the way. Sell or donate them according to your time as one man’s trash is another man’s gold.
  • Plan your moving day before you start any moving process. Select the day and time you want to move. Select a time suitable according to your job or time. Do not rush yourself into doing anything; it won’t get you any good.
  • Arrange your moving truck whenever you have decided your moving day. Book it in advance to avoid any last-minute hassle. Look through different moving companies and select the one that is more suitable for you.
  • Arrange your labor in advance you have moving professionals working with you. See their working process how they are moving the stuff and if they can safely move your belongings also.
  • Arrange your utilities like your electricity, water, gas connections, etc. in advance to avoid problems. This will take a lot of time and you do not want to waste any of it while you are in the moving process.
  • Create a moving budget as you will need it for your move so that you do not spend more. Get to know the costs of all the services and utilities you will be having.
  • Arrange good quality packaging material and make sure you have everything to pack each and every small, large, fragile, precious, or heavy item at your home. Some common packaging products are – carton boxes, packing tapes, packing paper, newspaper, scissors, bubble wrap, plastics, Styrofoam, thermocol balls, hardware kit, etc.
  • Start packing strategically to be sure that everything is in order and you are good to go. You would not want to break some precious items or your oil to spread all over, making the box lose resulting in tearing of that box and falling of things out.
  • Defrost your refrigerator at least 48 hours before your move.
  • Dismantle your furniture into pieces and pack them separately so that they use less space of yours during the move.
  • Update your address in all your necessary documentation such as aadhar, ration card, driving license, etc.
  • Ensure your precious items to avoid any unnecessary loss especially if you are moving for a long distance.
  • Keep a track of your items during the moving process. You cannot trust anybody working with you as they are not professionals and you will need to have eyes upon them.

Don’ts

  • Do not rely upon anyone and believe in yourself.
  • Do not get enticed by low offers given by movers. Trust us, it’s a scam. You do not want to get into a pool of frauds who will charge you much more.
  • Do not waste your time by engaging in different activities. Each and every minute during your moving process is precious.
  • Do not leave packing for the last minute as this might cost you much more than you would have expected.
  • Do not move during the moving season or moving week of the month as it will cost you more. You can avail of the same services in an off-moving season.
  • Do not open those boxes from your last move if you have any. It won’t be of any help now if they are lying at your home for this long. Keep them aside as they are but be sure to check if they are inappropriate conditions to move.
  • Do not waste food at the last minute. Start consuming it for weeks before moving out so that you are not left with anything and none of your stuff goes into the dustbin. If you are still left with some things then you may give them to needy people out instead of throwing them away.
  • Do not water your plants a few days before you are moving out according to the season of the move.
  • Do not forget to keep track of your luggage while you are moving. You will need to have eyes upon each and every stuff of yours and be sure that you count the number of boxes and items both at your pick-up and delivery location.
  • Do not forget to have a look at your home thoroughly after moving your luggage to the truck and leaving your current home.
  • Do not pay in advance to any of the people or packer and movers company you are hiring. You can never trust their words. It might happen that they deny on your moving day and you will be stuck with them.
  • Do not lose your mind while the whole process is going on. We all know this is hectic but you need to keep yourself sane throughout to keep proper track of everything.
