A bathroom vanity is different from the cabinet used only for the storage of bathroom accessories. It is a combination of sink and storage cabinet, making it an essential feature in every modern bathroom. The cabinet conceals the plumbing lines of the sink while providing support to the basin. Different kinds of bathroom vanities are available in the market, varying based on the style, shape, and materials used in making these items.

Wall-Mounted Vanity

This vanity is attached directly to a wall of the bathroom and thus, it does not occupy any flooring space. Hence, it is a smart space-saving option for smaller bathrooms. Its size depends on the dimensions of the wall on which it should be mounted. However, people need to be careful in using such vanities and should not overload with heavy materials, which may lead to its detachment from the wall. It is also called floating vanity, as it does not rest on the floor and hang from the wall.

Vanity Cabinet

This bathroom fixture needs plenty of space and hence, it can be placed only in a spacious bathroom.  It provides a huge amount of storage space where all bathroom accessories and cleaning agents can be stored conveniently. Moreover, the large surface area of the top of this vanity can be used for shaving or applying makeup before the bathroom mirror. Some of these vanities are provided with double sinks, which is a helpful feature for busy people in the morning. Usually, a vanity cabinet is made of high-quality hardwood; but sometimes marble is also preferred by some rich house owners.

Freestanding Vanity

Generally, this vanity is available in rectangular or square shape, housing single or double sinks. Like all other wooden furniture pieces, the freestanding vanity is available in many attractive designs and finishes. However, the sinks and other features of ceramic are available on the upper surface of this vanity. It has resemblance with pedestal sink, in concealing the plumbing lines and cheaper price ranges. It also offers a lot of inner space for storing towels and toiletries.

Under-Mounted Sink Vanity

In this vanity, the sink is installed deep into the top surface of the wooden body. Since the sink is not visible from a distance, the total appearance of the vanity is more aesthetic for a modern bathroom. People can make it more attractive by placing a designer mirror on the wall above this vanity. However, the storage space of these vanities can be lesser, as some inner space is occupied by the under-mounted sinks.

Vessel Vanity

It is commonly seen in many hotels and restaurants, due to its aesthetic look. The sink of this vanity looks like a bowl protruding out of the vanity surface. Since it needs regular cleaning and a large amount of flooring space, this vanity is not usually preferred at homes. However, these vessel vanities are ideal choices in commercial establishments due to the stylish designs and large storage spaces with several drawers of different sizes.

People often prefer rectangular or square-shaped vanities, according to the space available in their bathrooms. Solid plywood is the most common material used for making a vanity while the particleboard and laminate are also popular and affordable options for this purpose. Though marble is quite expensive, some people may consider having a vanity made of white marble that can be cleaned easily and it looks grand. All these options vary from one homeowner to another, according to their requirements and budgets. The bathroom vanity unit that you will choose will depict your personality hence you must do good research before investing in it.
