Sports Scholarship

GIIS sports Scholarships are designed especially for students who are interested in sports. It encourages young sportsmen by offering them a scholarship to learn from the best coaches and achieve brilliance at regional, national, and international levels.

The scholarship is offered for various individual and team disciplines — Badminton, Table Tennis, Lawn Tennis, Chess, Athletics, Gymnastics, Swimming, Archery, Shooting, Boxing, Weightlifting, Cycling, Diving, Soccer, Volleyball, Basketball, Netball, Traditional Games (kho-kho, Kabaddi), Martial Arts (Judo & Karate), Wrestling, Hockey, Cricket, Rugby and Squash.

Eligibility Criteria

If you are interested in applying for the GIIS sports scholarship, check out the eligibility criteria below for the same:

  1.     The applicant must be an Indian citizen.
  2.     The student must be from a moderate-income family (with an annual family income less than INR 5 Lacs).
  3.     The student must have maintained a good academic performance for the last two years.
  4.     The student must be affiliated with a sports coach or a recognized sports academy.
  5.     Should have played consistently for two years and represented the state/country at the national or international level.
  6.     Must have strong future potential.
  7.     Must pass a skills test and interview round.
  8.     Be a member of the winner or runner up team in individual events at the state or national level.
  9.     Must have displayed outstanding performance in the field of sports.
  10.   Must convince the board during their personal about their calibre and why they must be offered the scholarship.

Scholarship Value

For the GIIS sports scholarship, the grant value varies based on the student’s eligibility and is divided into six categories:

Category A: For the students awarded at international sporting events, the scholarship value includes 100% coverage of sports expenses (max INR 6 lacs per year) for three years and 100% waiver on total fees.

Category B: For the students represented at international sporting events, the scholarship value includes 100% coverage of sports expenses (max INR 4 lacs per year) for three years and 100% waiver on total fees.

Category C: For the students awarded at national sporting events, the scholarship value includes 100% coverage of sports expenses (max INR 2.25 lacs per year) for three years and 100% waiver on total fees.

Category D: For the students represented at national sporting events, the scholarship value includes 100% coverage of sports expenses (max INR 1.25lacs per year) for three years and 100% waiver on total fees.

Category E: For the students awarded at state-level sporting events, the scholarship value includes 90% coverage of sports expenses (max INR 75,000 per year) for three years and 100% waiver on total fees.

Category F: For the students represented at state-level sporting events, the scholarship value includes 90% coverage of sports expenses (max INR 25,000 per year) for three years and 100% waiver on total fees.

GIIS MCM Scholarship

GIIS merit-cum-means scholarship (Mahatma Gandhi Universal Values Merit-cum-Means Scholarship) is meant for students from moderate-income groups. It acts as financial support to families while ensuring the holistic development of the student in both academics and extracurricular activities.

Eligibility Criteria

The students to avail of the scholarship must fulfill the following eligibility criteria:

  1.     The applicant must be an Indian citizen.
  2.     The students must have an above-average academic performance, i.e. minimum 60% aggregate or equivalent in the past two years.
  3.     The family must submit income documents/ tax assessment (ITR duly acknowledged by the IT department) for the past two years.
  4.     If the students have local guardians, then their gross family income will be considered for application processing.
  5. A self-declaration will be required for calculating Gross Family Income.

Scholarship Details

The GIIS Mahatma Gandhi Universal Values Merit-cum-Means Scholarship is offered to students from different income groups:

  1.     For family income below INR 8,00,000 per annum, students are eligible for a scholarship up to the value of a 20% waiver on the tuition fees.
  2.     For family income below INR 8,00,000 – INR 10,00,000 per annum, students are eligible for a scholarship up to the value of a 15% waiver on the tuition fees.
  3.     For family income below Rs 10,00,000 – Rs 12,00,000 per annum, students are eligible for a scholarship up to the value of a 12% waiver on the tuition fees.
  4. For family income below Rs 12,00,000 – Rs 25,00,000 per annum, students are eligible for a scholarship up to the value of a 10% waiver on the tuition fees.

 While the sports scholarship is designed for students with an interest in sports and athletics, the MCM scholarship targets students from financially weaker backgrounds and provides the necessary support to help them pursue their dreams.
