Here is a list of what to expect from your child’s first-ever session of dance

Before we share anything with you, please try and answer this question:

Why do you want to enroll your child in a dance class?

There could be many answers to this question, but we are assuming that you might have something like this on your mind:

My child shows interest in dancing. I wish to encourage it because dance is a skill that gets better with practice. Proper guidance and training can further enhance the skill and turn my child into a professional.

Seems fair enough, right?

What if we point out that you might be setting your expectations a bit higher?

Let us explain:

Encouraging and helping your child to do better and enrolling him or her in a dance class is a good thing. However, expecting your child to become a professional dancer just because your child joined online dance classes is a completely different scenario. This expectation can turn out to be toxic for your kid.

In fact, there are many parents who think that their child will learn or improve a lot during the first dance class. How much do you expect your kiddo to learn during the first lesson?

If your child is already good at dancing, you might be expecting a little bit of improvement in posture, timing, expressions, movements, etc.; right? Whereas, if your child only tries to follow the steps of actors dancing on TV, your expectations from the first dance class may include learning the dance for, at least, half the song.

These expectations are wrong because they put too much pressure on your child. You might think that the pressure is on the teacher, but it is your child who actually tries to go the extra mile for your satisfaction.

We are talking about your young child! How could you expect your kiddo to learn so much in just a single day?

It might look easy for you but your child has to process a lot during the first day of the dance class, especially if your child is enrolled in live online dance classes. Can you imagine that something as simple as getting used to the classes may also take a few days?

With that settled, let us now lay out what to expect from the first dance lesson of your kid:

The Introduction Phase

To make your child comfortable this is the first step that all the instructors at PiggyRide follow. Our dance instructors introduce themselves, their dance style, experience, and background. Then once your child looks more relaxed, the instructor will ask your child to introduce himself or herself and the reason to learn dance.

After this, the dance instructor will outline the rules that your child will have to follow during the dance sessions. The sole purpose of this short introduction phase is to get your child to gel up with the dance teacher so your child does not feel shy or overwhelmed.

Warm-Up Routine

The next step is to prepare your child’s body before the little one starts learning any step of the dance. Every instructor makes it mandatory for the students to warm up before they hit the dance floor. Dance routines make your child push their body further than what it is accustomed to and, therefore, warming up is necessary to avoid any injuries.

Learning Dance

Last but not least, comes the most exciting part when your little one gets to dance. Consider the first dance lesson of your kid as a way to learn more about the dance style and judge whether it suits him/her or not. Additionally, it will also help your child decide whether he/she gets on well with the teacher or not.

During the first dance class, the instructor will begin with the basic steps to understand where your child stands. Your child will have to practice and follow the dance steps of the teacher and then perform the same steps in sync with the music.

PiggyRide offers multiple online dance courses, focussing on specific dance styles, for children.
