Some business owners may incredulously ask “Why do I need a contractor website?” The answer is quite simple. Having a well designed website can make the contractor more money.

Contractors often think of a website as nothing more than a sign in front of their business. An internet search for almost any field such as plumber, roofer, electrician, or any other similar title will usually result in a lot of “me too” sites. For example, one electrician website will state that they have great rates, offer services for residential homes, and they are happy to provide free estimates. Look at another website for an electrical contractor and the guy may as well put “me too” in a big bold letter across the top of the main page.

Most contractors do not focus on separating themselves from the pack. Even worse, contractors do not utilize their sites to their full potential. A website is a little worker. Its number one duty is to bring in more qualified leads for the contractor. An increase in qualified leads will allow the contractor to close more business.

A website can create business when it is easy for people to find it in an internet search. When the site contains frequently asked questions about common problems homeowners have within the contractor’s scope of work, people will refer more often to the site as a reference tool. When the site adds a detailed contact form that allows customers to spell out their problems, contractors can respond to clients with possible solutions to the need. When past clients have a place to leave positive comments about the work performed, new clients can see the reputation and integrity of the contractor.
