Raksha Bandhan, which we also called Rakhi, is a festival widely celebrated in India. The sisters tie up a knot on the wrist of their brothers, and the brothers swear for their protection.

We all value this festival a lot. No matter our geographical differences, we celebrate Rakhi from all parts of India.

I often come across the question about “How Rakhi started” or “How did Raksha Bandhan start”.

Well, if we look at our ancient history, we can get many reasons regarding this.

The Mahabharata time

The first one is of the time of Mahabharat when the wife of Pandavas, Draupadi, tore a small part of her saree and tied it in the wrist of Lord Krishna while he was bleeding. Many peoples believe Rakhi originated from this incident.

Lord Krishna became the brother of Draupadi and promised her protection. From here, the bond between brothers and sisters started where sisters tie Rakhi on the wrist of their brothers, and the brothers swear to protect their sisters.

The bond between Rani Karnavati and Humayun

When we look at the other incident, then we can deeply emphasize Raksha Bandhan. It is one of the riveting incidents of Indian history. It is the story of Rani Karnavati and Mughal emperor Humayun.

Rani Karnavati, the queen of Chittor, was ruling over the kingdom in the name of her elder son Vikramjeet. The king of Gujrat, Bahadur Shah, attacked her kingdom. Queen Karnavati sent a bracelet to Emperor Humayun as a Rakhi, and in return, she asked for her protection.

The Mughal empire took his forces and went Chittor, but he was too late to arrive there. Bahadur Shah had already captured the kingdom.

The bond of unity

The credit goes to Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore. It was the time of the Bengal partition in 1905 when Rabindranath Tagore started Rakhi as a Mahotsav, which is to be celebrated in Bengal and India.

His message was to unite the Hindus and Muslims, even after the partition, and raise the voice together against the Britishers.

Present time

Now, we can see around us that we celebrate Raksha Bandhan like a Mahotsav. The peoples from Eastern India, Northern India, Western India, and Southern India all collaborate and celebrate the festival altogether.

At present times, we can see that the festival is not only limited to the bond between the brothers and sisters. Now, anyone can tie a bond and swear for protection.

“Raksha Bandha”, the name itself depicts as “bond of protection”. Bandhan is a Hindi word also known as ‘bond’, and Raksha means ‘protection’.

With the same thoughts, the people are tying each other with a bond.

We all are very well aware of the current situation, not only in India but across the world. Our mother earth is in a slow-healing process from the pandemic. Everyone experienced a magnificent change around them during this time.

From shifting to online classes and working from home to groceries and gifting, all transposed in a virtual model.

Due to this, most of the gifts are sent online or through digital media. Yes, we all are following the contactless celebration of festive. Surprisingly, we are getting all the positive vibes through this.

Similarly, there is a rise in personalized gifts online.

You can gift someone with their name mentioned on it, and guess what?

One can also contact a celebrity on such an unusual day. If you want to gift your sister, then nothing can be as nippy and surprising as a celebrity video shoutout  for her.

Just imagine your sister received a notification and checked. She finds it from a VIP, wishing her Raksha Bandhan. Won’t it be enough to make her day?

She will go out and flaunt in her social groups. She can also post the message on her social media account. It will add a privilege to her groups.
