Jharkhand, that is rich in minerals and is highly sought-after by mining companies that mine coal. Tata Steel, under its Jharia division, has set up an Jamadoba plant that is capable of producing 2 million tonnes of coal per year (MTPA). It is in addition to activities of prominent companies like Adani Group, Vedanta and Hindalco.

Following a number of energy projects in Jharkhand that are both private and public, Tata Steel, an Indian multinational steel-making company has launched an Jamadoba coal preparation facility that has the capacity of 2,000,000 tonnes per year (MTPA). The company’s Jharia division has undertaken various initiatives to enhance its efficiency through the automation of processes and the digitalization.

Tata Steel released a statement declaring that Jharia division of Tata Steel had completed the commissioning of the 2 MTPA modern coal preparation plant and 400 kilovolts (kVA) Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) for the Main Mechanical Ventilator in Jamadoba colliery. The coal preparation plant was constructed with the latest technology and was transformed into an old washery.

In addition to Tata, Adani Godda has established an Thermal Power project with a capacity of 1600MW (2 X 800MW) through its SPV Adani Power Limited. The plant will comprise steam generators and a steam turbine, in addition to electrostatic precipitators, boilers and other modern technologies. Adani Group’s Godda unit power plant unit will be equipped with condensers constructed of steel rolled with a split waterbox design. Adani Group won previously the rights to Godda as well as the Gondulpara coal mine in Jharkhand and has the geological reserve of 176.33 million tonnes.

The crucial role played by the state in serving the energy requirements of a variety of sectors is highlighted through these massive-scale projects undertaken by conglomerates located in Jharkhand. Jharkhand is among the largest mineral regions around the globe and has 29 percent of India’s coal reserves. In the year 2018-19 the state’s total mineral production (excluding fuel minerals) was estimated at USD 356.22 millions. It is also among the states with the highest economic development in India, with its gross domestic product growing at a rate of compound annual growth (CAGR), 12.30 percent between 2015-16 and 2019.-20
