NBA draft day is full of surprises, and there is no doubt in this. Last year, many players were undrafted and were at the back end of the draft. Everyone is curious to know about these. All the players had a lucrative chance of establishing their careers in the NBA but went undrafted. Most of the players are shooting swingmen, while others are point guards. Besides this, there are a couple of frontcourt players as well. NBA players enter the professional rank through the draft only, but some players follow a different route to the league. Some people have made an incredible mark by participating in the NBA draft. The NBA has seen many players blossom despite being undrafted.

The players who got undrafted will one day stand out in the league for sure. Unfortunately, only a few players manage to reach the NBA as it is not everyone’s cup of tea. Let us have a look at some of the undrafted NBA players in the last year.

List of undrafted players

So many players became left out on the verge and were undrafted from the NBA. If we see NBA history, we will come across many players who couldn’t make a promising career for themselves. Here are some of the undrafted players from last year.

Devon Dotson

Many people viewed Devon Dotson as a mid-second-round pick. But the fact is that it turned out to be a blessing for the Chicago Bulls. They took advantage when the NBA undrafted him and signed a contract with him. The main reason he lacks behind is his lack of shooting progress, so teams passed over him.

Killian Tillie

Despite being depicted as a mid to late second-round pick, the Gonzaga stretch forward went undrafted. Killian Tillie is a Frenchman and was at the peak of his career during the senior year of his college. He used to shoot at a 40% clip for a small sample size. But when the NBA undrafted him, the Grizzlies picked him up and signed a two-year contract.

Nate Hinton

During the 2 years of his college basketball career, he served as the shooting guard for the Houston Cougars. But he can shoot the lights out. Last year, from the three-point, he made a shot at 38.7%. From then to now, he has shown a lot of scope for improvement. Some people often suspect the free throw shooting figure of 75% of Nate Hinton. Due to this, he also went undrafted. Instead, he signed the contract with the Mavericks, and it is expected that it will do good to him as he will be under the guidance of coach Rick Carlisle.

Naji Marshall

The people know Naji Marshall as the swingmen, and the New Orleans Pelicans have hired him to improve their wind depth. He served three seasons as a slasher at Xavier and showed a lot of improvement through all the seasons. The reason due to which the NBA undrafted him was his suspect shooting. But now, the Pelicans have decided to work on him. For this particular skill, there aren’t any better mentors than JJ Redick.

Markus Howard

He is identified as one of the best volume shooters in NCAA history. He served 4 seasons at Marquette. Last year, while shooting for an amazing 41.2% from the 3-point line, he raised his scoring average to 27.6% per game. His profile is such that it can translate to the NBA level, but due to his problems as a defender, he went undrafted.

Fred VanVleet

He performed at Wichita State as a starter for three years. Fred VanVleet also signed a contract with the Toronto Raptors and spent most of his time in the G League. After averaging 17.6% in 2020, he became one of the free agents and went undrafted. He also broke out as a key contributor during the Raptors championship.

Udonis Haslem

In the franchise’s history, no other player has got such love as Udonis Haslem has got. Udonis Haslem has become one of the most sought after players in the history of the franchise. He plays as an insider defender and rounder at the same time. Presently he is playing for the Miami heat but has plans to return in 2020-2021.

David Wesley

He served almost a year in the continental basketball association before signing with the New Jersey Nets. Not only this, David Wesley played 14 seasons in total for the NBA, and in the coming years, he doubled the figures. Still, he went undrafted.

Chris Boucher

He was the first player to play as a defensive player for the G league MVP in 2019. Presently, he has collaborated with the Raptors. He has come up with some of the astounding numbers for this season. In each season he played, he averaged 13.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks. He is also widely known as the best rim protector and best rebounder in history. Despite being undrafted, he has been selected for the NBA’s most improved player of the year award.

Christian Woods

If there are any of the top big young men in the NBA, it is Christian Wood only. He competes to become the most improved player in the NBA and has averaged 13.1 points. But he got injured amid the season and was left out from the NBA.

Conclusion

These were some of the undrafted NBA players from the current NBA season. All these will have brilliant careers if everything works out well in the future.
