Myofascial release massage away from pain

Myofascial release is a specialized massage therapy that lengthens the muscles and connective tissue in your body to relieve pain common in soft tissue disorders. You will come out of your first myofascial release session more comfortable than you thought possible, more relaxed and you will breathe more deeply than before.

Muscles and fascia

To understand why myofascial release works so well, you first need to know a little more about the fascia, the thin layer of white tissue that covers every organ in your body. Every muscle group and every muscle tissue fiber it contains is covered with fascial tissue. Up to 40% of each muscle group, or myofascial unit, is made up of this resilient, elastic tissue that protects, organizes, and lubricates the associated muscle. Massage Center in Al Rigga

For a masseur, the function of the myofascial as a muscle lubricant is the most important. Normal myofascial allows muscle fibers to move easily within the muscle group and allows the muscle group itself to move smoothly against other muscles and structures in the body.

Due to injury, repetitive overuse, habitual posture, or even emotional states, normally smooth, smooth, and flexible myofascial tissue can shorten and become stiff, sticky, and inelastic. It can lose its lubricating properties and act more like an adhesive, bonding the muscle fibers together. This causes pain, restricts the range of motion of the muscles, can cause muscle spasms, and creates much of what we experience as generalized tension. Stress and imbalance in the muscles and fascia can radiate throughout the body, causing pain and symptoms in places you wouldn’t normally expect.

Myofascial release targets

Myofascial release aims to restore normal function of the fascia associated with injured muscles and stretch the fascia/muscle unit to its proper length. Myofascial massage gradually releases tight, attached areas of your muscles, thereby reducing the tension on the injured fascia.

Practitioners of myofascial release begin to stretch their fascia guided by feedback from their bodies. Short, tight fascia is very different from the touch of normally functioning tissues. Experienced myofascial release therapists locate areas of tension by lightly touching them, stretching a small area with minimal force, often using just two fingers, and then waiting for the fascia to relax. Immediately after release, a little more effort is applied to increase the stretch. The process takes place throughout the affected muscle until it is completely relaxed.

Note that the stretch, or myofascial release, is created by the therapist’s hands and not generally by the patient moving their muscles or limbs. The effect is not painful and most people find it very relaxing, more and more as the massage is performed and the painful areas are treated.

Results of myofascial release

Oftentimes, patients have become so numb from ongoing pain that they cannot say precisely where they feel the pain. Do not worry! Guided by tactile feedback, a full myofascial massage by an experienced myofascial massage therapist can go from the patient’s calves to her skull, wherever the abnormally tight myofascial trace leads. With treatment, those painful myofascial trigger points will disappear, leaving you painless, with a greater range of motion, and able to breathe more deeply. You can judge your own progress by relieving pain and improving your posture.
