U.S. CAPITOL POLICE have boosted security at the Capitol this week because of intelligence of a possible plot by a militia group to breach the building on Thursday — the day on which some in the far-right QAnon conspiracy movement believe former President Donald Trump will return to office.
“The United States Capitol Police Department is aware of and prepared for any potential threats towards members of Congress or towards the Capitol complex. We have obtained intelligence that shows a possible plot to breach the Capitol by an identified militia group on Thursday, March 4,” the department said in a statement Wednesday. “We have already made significant security upgrades to include establishing a physical structure and increasing manpower to ensure the protection of Congress, the public and our police officers.”

The statement comes after Capitol Police said Tuesday night that it was beefing up security on Capitol Hill this week because of “concerning information and intelligence pertaining March 4th.”
The threat on March 4 can be traced to QAnon, a sprawling conspiracy theory based on the belief that prominent Democratic politicians and other powerful people run a Satanic pedophile ring and are protected by career government workers that make up the “deep state.” QAnon adherents believe that Trump was working during his presidency to expose the ring and, in the wake of the election, promoted the claim that the election was “stolen” from Trump.
