Nowadays, it is very rare for someone to choose to put the television back on the furniture. I would say that 8 out of 10 people who are renovating or building consider wall-mounting the TV and hiding the wires.

What few people know is that it is possible to do this installation directly on the masonry wall, without the need for joinery panels.

What is the Best Option to Install the TV?

For each case, there is a solution. If you don’t want to do absolutely anything at the construction site, it will be more economical and practical to invest in ready-made or bespoke joinery panel. But if you decide to work with a bricklayer, you will certainly save by choosing to prepare the masonry for the passage of the television wires, saving this item on the joiner’s list.

What You Will Need to Install the TV In Masonry?

  • 2″ PVC tube (minimum 50mm diameter)
  • 2 PVC knees
  • A TV stand is compatible with your TV model and measurements

TIPS:

  • It is ideal to use cold water pipes of at least 2″ to accommodate well the passage of wires and the “heads” of the outlets. A conduit does not work! Because it has a smaller diameter, it won’t be able to pass many takes.
  • Usually, the construction companies deliver the low sockets to turn on the television. Since you are going to do the installation work, check the possibility of putting up a socket for the TV that is behind it. That way, you’ll only use the built-in pipe for connecting wires for other devices and for cable TV and internet.

5 Steps for Installation:

  1. Position the TV at the desired height and mark the measurements for it and for the fixing bracket on the masonry.
  2. Identify the exact location and mark the entry and exit points of the wires on the wall:
    1. One of them should be right behind the TV, so it is ideal for you to identify on which side of your TV the wires that must be connected to the socket and other appliances come out.
    2. The other must lead the wires to the existing outlet and other connection points, such as the cable television set, video games, etc.

PS: Consider all the devices that must be connected to the TV first, and if necessary, place up to two pipes built into the wall.

  1. After identifying points, A and B, mark a straight line between them and buy the PVC pipe plus the knees for the ends. Make sure you have enough to cover the distance between the two points once or twice if you choose to use two pipes.
  2. Make the opening in the masonry over the marking of this line (the distance between points A and B). Remember that the width and depth of this opening must allow the pipe plus the knees to be 100% embedded in the masonry, so the wall will not be marked, showing that an opening was made there and then closing.
  3. Use the mortar to make the closure, wait for it to dry and then sand. Then apply a layer of acrylic putty and smooth the surface of the wall so that everything is on the same level.

After smoothing the surface, choose the finish you want. It can be painting, wallpaper or any coating such as stone, brick, or whatever your creativity dictates!
