No matter how carefully you drive, an accident or fall will have happened before you know it. Unfortunately, you are also dependent on the attentiveness of other road users. The annoying thing is that, in addition to possible physical injury, your motorcycle can suffer considerable damage even in the event of a minor fall. To at least alleviate the financial pain, it is therefore wise to protect the vulnerable parts of your motorcycle. It is nice that motorcycle manufacturers usually already take into account a later attachment of protection products, the mounting points are often already present.

Protect the frame with drop caps

Crash pads  are especially useful when you’re making a slider. The moment the bike hits the road surface, it slips at three points: handlebars, crash cap and footrest. This prevents damage to the frame, fairing and engine block. Thanks to the great friction between the crash cap and the road surface, the engine will also come to a standstill faster. Most motorcycle manufacturers have already installed mounting points in the frame, so the installation of crash covers is very simple.

Engine Guards

Engine protectors roughly consist of two types. The best known are the plates that are also called crankcase protectors. They protect the underside of the engine block from stones and other sharp objects. Crankcase guards are mostly used on off-road machines. In addition, there are the cylinder protectors that are especially popular with BMW drivers. After all, a scratch or damage on one of the protruding cylinders does not look good.

Tank pads

Tank pads  come in countless shapes and sizes, but the top-tank models all have one thing in common. They protect the paint of the fuel tank against scratches caused by a tank bag, and the buttons or zipper of your motorcycle jacket. In addition to providing protection, the pads that are fitted to the side of the tank also help to control the motorcycle itself, for example when cornering or when braking.

Crash bars

The  crash bars that are supplied today are fundamentally different from those large chrome tubes that were used in the past. Once in a while you still see them on training bikes. The modern crash bars such as those supplied by SW-Motech and Givi, among others, are hardly noticeable anymore. They follow the design lines of the engine, but protect the block and other vital parts of the engine just as well. Crash bars are also attached to fixed mounting points that the motorcycle manufacturer has installed.

Other motorcycle protection products

Finally, there are a number of products that protect specific parts of the motorcycle. You should think of brake disc protectors, or protectors for the cardan, the brake fluid reservoir, the front fork  and wheel axles .
