The 2022 tax decree changes car insurance, family car liability arrives: all cars and motorcycles insured within a family unit will be able to benefit from the lowest merit class among those of family members. Effective: February 16, 2022.

The new family car ivf liability insurance is here, the merit class will concern the entire family unit and not the individual insured, guaranteeing the class of the most virtuous family member to all the other insured members.

Family car liability: entry into force

On February 16, 2022, the new family car liability insurance came into force

With family TPL, the family unit can ensure all vehicles owned, cars and motorbikes, using the best class of merit present in the unit. In some cases, it is estimated that family spending on car and motorcycle insurance could fall by 53%, therefore by more than half.

The transition to the more favorable merit class is not automatic but can be requested starting from the renewal of the policy, this means that if you have just renewed, you will have to wait for the expiry of the policy to change.

How does Family TPL work?

The rule extends the obligation for insurance companies to assign the most favorable class of merit to the members of the family unit resulting from the last certificate of risk. Unlike the Bersani Law, the insurance contract with a more favorable merit class can also be extended to another type of vehicle. For example, from a car to a moped.

Having received so many comments on this, let’s answer this question:

What happens in the event of an accident wrongfully?

Certainly, there will be an increase in the merit class of the car insurance involved in the accident, but it will not involve the other cars in the household.

ATTENTION! To benefit from Family TPL, there must have been no claims in the previous 5 years.

Can you save money with the family car RC?

On paper, this possibility should result in significant savings as it will allow applying the best merit class to all family members. Several simulations have already been carried out with the most striking example, that of a family with a car in 1st class and a moped in 14th. If the city taken into consideration is Milan, for example, the amount paid for the scooter could be reduced by over 300 euros.

There are many other factors to keep in mind and these simulations only help to understand the potential savings. We will see in practice, however, all things being equal, a lower merit class usually results in a reduction in the fee to be paid and should be good news for consumers.
