In April 2020, Toyota will debut the new Yaris Cross, a new crossover based on the new generation Yaris. The new generation of Toyota’s entry-level crossover will be available in September 2021 in the European market.
According to recent reports in the Japanese media, the Japanese Toyota Yaris Cross is expected to be updated in 2022, with the introduction of the Adventure model, which will precede the European Yaris Cross, and the GR Sport model, which will debut on the Japanese model.

Normally we think of hybrid systems as a burden on the vehicle, as the extra electric motor and battery pack inevitably affect the performance of the vehicle, but the 1.5L hybrid powertrain in the Toyota Yaris Cross 2022 is astonishing.

As the name suggests, in addition to the original engine and gearbox, the hybrid system also has an electric motor, electric cables and a battery pack, of which the weight of the battery pack is very impressive. 80kg, not counting the electric motor!

But as technology advances, hybrid systems are becoming more compact, especially the new generation of Toyota’s Dynamic Force Engine 1.5 hybrid in Europe and Japan, which is even more impressive. The new engine has a maximum horsepower of 114 bhp and an acceleration time of 11.2 seconds from 0-62 mph (0-100 km), which is by no means an outstanding acceleration time. The carbon emissions per kilometre are only 98 grams, so it fully meets the European emission and fuel consumption standards!

In fact, the Corolla Cross Hybrid is also available in our market with the fourth generation of THS technology, with a smaller electric motor and battery capacity, and most importantly, with a spare wheel! This is something that is rarely seen on previous hybrids! I have to admit that Toyota’s hybrid technology is really well developed!
