It is essential to attempt UGC NET previous year question papers to be familiar with the type and level of the questions asked in the exam.
Thus, solving the previous years’ question papers would definitely increase your chances of clearing the exam.
Having said that the best way to use the previous years’ papers is to randomly solve one, before actually beginning your preparation. That way you will be able to understand your weak areas better.
Then you can start your prep with an extra emphasis on your weak points. After having done so, you can go on to solve another previous year paper to weed out further the weak spots in your prep and work on eliminating them.
Carry on with this process till you are confident that there aren’t any more weak spots left in your preparation.
Lastly, if you are lucky, you might just chance upon certain questions in your actual UGC NET exam, which you had already solved before in the previous year question papers.
In the blog linked below, we have provided past year papers with a detailed solution.

The National Eligibility Test (NET) commonly referred to as UGC NET or NTA UGC NET Exam, started in the year 1989-90, is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on behalf of the University Grants Commission (UGC) for 81 different subjects.
First, let me start by introducing the organisations.
UGC (University Grants Commission) was established in 1956 as a statutory body by the Indian Government. Its objectives were to coordinate, determine and maintain the standards of higher education.
While, NTA (an Indian Government Agency) was established in November 2017 to conduct entrance examinations for institutes of higher education, nationwide.
The UGC NET exam was earlier conducted by the CBSE but from December 2018 onwards it is being conducted by the NTA. It is conducted typically twice a year (June & December Cycles) and more than 5 lakh students appear for the exam each cycle.
The exam’s purpose is basically to determine whether you are eligible to apply for the post of Assistant Professor (AP) &/or receive the Junior Research Fellowship award (JRF).
Now, to talk a little about the JRF. It is a letter awarded to those candidates that have secured marks greater/equal to the JRF cut-offs in their NET for their respective subjects. The JRF letter is basically a bearer document through which you’ll be able to avail a scholarship while pursuing your M.Phil./Ph.D.
With the introduction over, let’s quickly delve into the when and what of UGC NET 2022. The UGC NET 2021 took a major hit in its schedule, owing to the difficult pandemic situation. However, with normalcy restoring at a fine pace, the UGC NET 2022 exam process is likely to go smoothly.
Although not as smoothly as it was expected has been released on April 30, 2022, and in the notification, it has been declared that the December 2021 and June 2022 exam processes will be combined.
