How to remove the dirty, greasy residues from your white marble kitchen counter?

Having a kitchen graced with a beautiful white marble countertop is like a dream kitchen interior. Also, installing marble counters is safer than other options, as they’re usually sealed. Regardless of that, you should reapply the sealants to keep the marble surface stain-resistant. Marble is porous and this is why greases can easily penetrate through its pores and leave an ugly residue.

But well, using a few steps, you can take the greasy residues off your marble kitchen countertops. And here’re the steps to straw out the grease from your beautiful marble,

1. If your marble counter is sealed:

If you are sure that your marble kitchen countertop is sealed. You can follow the below steps,

i) Never use orange, lemon or anything acidic on marbles to remove the grease.

ii) Gather paper towels, water and a pH-neutral soap for your marble top.

iii) Blot the excess greasy residue using clean, dry paper towels from your kitchen counter.

iv) If you still feel the greasiness on the marble surface, use a pH-neutral soap on your kitchen counter for a few minutes.

v) Once you’re sure that the greasy residue has come off your marble counter, rinse the area with clean water.

vi) Leave the area to dry completely.

2. If your marble counter isn’t sealed:

Removing greasy residues from marble is easy if the surface is sealed. But what if you think that the stone seal is compromised?

Well, then you’ve to follow the below steps,

i) Gather enough cornstarch to remove the grease and put on gloves before using it.

ii) Mix ¼ cup of cornstarch with 1 tablespoon of clean water at the same time to maintain the consistency of the paste.

iii) Damp the greasy spot on your marble counter by pressing a wet sponge gently over it.

iv) Apply the cornstarch paste you’ve just made evenly over the damp area.

v) Now cover the area with plastic wrap and press the cover firmly over the marble surface.

vi) Now take a toothpick and poke holes in the plastic wrap to allow the paste to dry. During this process, the cornstarch paste will absorb the grease from the marble.

vii) Leave it like that at least for 1-2 days. After that remove the plastic cover and the paste.

viii) If you still can feel the residue of kitchen grease on the marble counter, repeat the same process without skipping any part.

ix) Once you’re sure that both the greasy feeling and residue are removed, clean the area with a pH-neutral soap and clean water. Leave the marble surface to dry off completely.

If you’re unsure about the sealing matter of your marble counter, you should put a small puddle of water on it. If the water gets absorbed quickly, your marble counter isn’t sealed. At that time, you need to use the steps mentioned under the (B) point.
