Quick and Easy Fishing Cake

Things You Need

  • 1 cake mix
  • Flour
  • blue food coloring (or any other color you choose), and red food coloring
  • Nonstick cooking spray
  • decorative foil, medium piping tip
  • pastry bag
  • 2~ round cake pans, 8 or 9 inches
  • One bag of gummy worms
  • Chocolate sandwich cookies
  • Three cups of white decorating icing
  • 10 inch round cake board

Here’s How to Do It in 10 Easy Steps

  1. Prepare and bake the cakes as directed on the package. Before you pour the cake batter into the pans, sprinkle the nonstick cooking spray on them.
  2. After the cakes are done, invert them onto a cooling rack to finish cooling.
  3. Use a serrated knife to level the tops of the cakes after they have cooled. Wrap pretty foil around a round cake board that measures 10 inches.
  4. Color most of the icing with the delphinium food color. Reserve about 1/3 cup of the icing and color it red with the red food color.
  5. Put a dollop of icing in the center of the cake board and spread it around. Place the first cake, cut side face down, on top of the icing.
  6. Put a layer of delphinium blue icing on top of the cake, then place the second cake on top, cut side down.
  7. Ice both cakes together with two layers of the icing. Let the cake set for a few minutes to allow the icing to dry a little. Smooth the icing using your fingers over a piece of wax paper.
  8. Fill the pastry bag fitted with the piping tip with the crimson icing. Put “Live Bait” through the cake’s opening. Using a rolling pin or a heavy bottom cup, crush up roughly half of the bag of Oreo cookies in a plastic bag.
  9. Evenly distribute the smashed cookies on the top of the cake using a gentle pouring technique. Use a moist cloth to remove any extra frosting or crumbs from the area surrounding the cake and cake board.
  10. When the cake is covered with the gummy worms, it’s time to serve!

Wait, there’s more…

Here are my 3 favorite fishing themed cake recipes that I usually follow. You can do the same.

Recipe 1: Simple Fishing Theme Cake

I was requested to bake my friend’s dad a cake with a fishing theme. Given my complete lack of fishing knowledge, I searched the internet extensively for inspiration.

In the end, I went with a chocolate sponge cake covered in chocolate and stuffed with chocolate buttercream.

I added a marbled effect of blue and green to the pond and colored some icing green for the grass.

After that, I added piping gel to make it appear like water, brown sugar to simulate sand, and melted chocolate to simulate dirt.

I created reeds out of dried spaghetti and icing modeling chocolate, as well as rocks, little rose bushes, a no-fishing sign, an old, tatty boot, a can, and a picnic of cheese-tomato sandwiches, apples, bananas, and flasks. I made advantage of jellyfish.

I then created three fishermen wearing hats and waders. A jelly fish leaped out of the pond and into the arms of the yellow-clad fisherman, taking off his cap as he enjoyed a lovely picnic.

All that the green-clad fisherman managed to catch was a can and an old boot. as the red-clad fisherman is taking a nap.

Recipe 2: Float Tube Fishing Cake

My husband, who enjoys floating tube fishing, is the reason I created this cake. This float tube cake was created after I searched far and wide for inspiration on the internet.

The fondant fish, gummie frogs, little Debbie logs, ice cream cone trees, candy rocks, and chocolate and frosting are all attached to the cake.

Recipe 3: Coolest Bass Fish Birthday Cake

One of my earliest birthday cakes was this one with a bass fish. For the eighteenth birthday of my kid. Since my son is a fisherman, I decided to follow through on my plan. But after I got going, I realized how challenging it was to create the bass fish.

After attempting to make some Rice treats that were too thin to maintain their shape, I proceeded to make more ones. Thankfully, on my second try, they were exactly what I needed.

My husband informed me that the fish I had begun to mold resembled a dinosaur. That infuriated me somewhat. That was my response after all the work I had put into it!?

I was adamant about making this creation of mine resemble a fish instead of a dinosaur. My perseverance paid off, and everything eventually came together.

I used marshmallow fondant to create the fins and tail, which required drying before I could paint them with food coloring.

While attempting to attach one of the fins, I shattered it when all the pieces were ready to assemble. I patched it with a little water because I didn’t have time to build another one and let it dry.
