A rug can add excitement to any room and custom logo rugs can add excitement to any commercial place. This alone is an excellent reason to decorate your home with a rug. But there are other compelling reasons. It can even be said that it completes a space by connecting all of the pieces visually. A rug can anchor a space, define it, add warmth and layer decor.

There are many ways to decorate with a rug. We will only cover ten.

Use Rugs to Define Areas

You can use a rug to separate or define areas such as dining or seating areas and foyers. This is particularly useful for studio apartments and larger rooms that require definition.

Make it diverse

Rugs can be used to add variety to a space. If you have two rugs in one room, the same size rugs can visually divide the space in half. To create an illusion of variety, use different sizes of rugs.

Harmony is possible

It’s best to use a combination of rugs when you have more than one. You could have a jarring effect or an unpleasant result. Harmony will be lost if there are too many patterns.

Get ideas for a color scheme

A favorite rug can be used as the base of a room’s color scheme. If you add the rug after your furniture is in place, it can be used to tie in or accent your existing colors.

You can control the volume

A rug can be used to visually quieten a space or increase the volume. Choose a subtler rug if your wallpaper or upholstery has an intricate pattern. If your walls and upholstery are quite subdued you might consider a bolder pattern or larger colors to add interest to the space.

Make a focal point

A rug can be the focal point in your room. Rugs have a powerful impact. You can achieve this effect by painting your walls in a color that is similar to one of your rug’s accent colours.

Dress up a wall

You can use a rug to hang on a wall to show it off, or create a focal point.

Have fun with shapes

You don’t have to make a rug rectangular. The shape of your rug will depend on how you arrange your furniture. Consider which shape you prefer, then choose a square, oval, or round shape that complements your furniture arrangement.

Be sure to get the right size

Add 3 feet to the room’s length and width when you purchase a room-sized rug. The room will look larger if the floor is left unfinished at the edges. Lay a rug underneath your dining table. Leave at least 24 inches of the rug between the edges of the table and the floor. This allows the back legs of chairs to remain on the rug even when they are pulled out for someone to sit. Your hallway should be at least 4 inches wider than the runners and between 18-24 inches and 24 inches longer. They should be wide enough for both your feet to touch the rug while you walk.

Remodel a Room

Replace rugs with pillows and rugs to make a room more modern or to introduce new colors.

Bonus Tip

To prevent your rug from sliding or creeping, you should always use a rug liner. Your floor type should dictate the size of the rug liner.
