Taiwan on Thursday (February 25) rejected the application of a well-known Hong Kong pro-Beijing director to the Huaqiang father and son to immigrate to Taiwan.
The Immigration Department of Taiwan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs announced on Thursday afternoon that Xiang Huaqiang’s “retention by relatives” was rejected for “national security reasons.” The Mainland Affairs Council of Taiwan subsequently stated that it respected the decision of the Immigration Department.
According to the Taiwan Central News Agency, MAC spokesperson Qiu Chuizheng said at the press conference that the Taiwan authorities process related applications in accordance with the “Measures for Hong Kong and Macao Residents to Enter the Taiwan Area and Residence Permits”.
