Apple recently released the iPhone 12 series, and it was a bundled introduction. In addition, the series has the latest and fastest A14 Bionic processor from Apple and the iOS 14 operating system. And the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro are causing a stir. If you are planning on purchasing either of these, you should definitely know some of the best tips and tricks for your iPhone 12 and 12 Pro.
iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro Overview
The two new Pro models are available in 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch size options and feature full-screen Super Retina XDR displays that are borderless with the exception of the Face ID notch.
iPhone 12 Pro has a resolution of 2532 x 1170 with 460 pixels per inch with 6.1-inch, while the 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max has a resolution of 2778 x and 458 ppi. The displays offer HDR support with 1200 nits of peak brightness, wide color, haptic touch, and true tone, all features that have been introduced over the years.
A new Ceramic Shield cover serves to protect the displays, which, according to Apple, “goes beyond glass” and is more resistant than any smartphone glass. It is infused with nano-ceramic crystals and offers 4 times better drop performance.
The iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max have a completely new look that is similar to the design of the iPad Pro, with flat edges instead of the rounded edges used in previous models. There is a precision-milled matt glass back, which is surrounded by a stainless steel band.
Color options include graphite, silver, gold, and Pacific blue, with the blue hue replacing the midnight green used last year. The iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max offer IP68 water and dust resistance and can be submerged in 6 meters of water for up to 30 minutes.
iPhone 12 Pro features
There are four new iPhone models in the fall collection, with this model being the smaller of the two pro-level phones. This device has a larger 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display compared to the iPhone 11 Pro.
Design
Apple changed some features of the iPhone design in the fall of 2020. The new models share the same edge-to-edge screen with a notch, but an old design paradigm returned: flat sides. The last iPhone with this design was the original iPhone SE. It gives the new iPhones a distinctive yet classic appearance. This is followed by the iPad Pro, which has also switched to a flat design in its third generation.
5G and wireless connectivity
Apple has upgraded from 4G LTE to 5G in the next generation iPhones. Qualcomm will provide the modems this year as Intel left the 5G modem business.
Apple could start making modems after acquiring Intel’s patents in a billion dollar business. However, the modems developed by Apple would not be ready until 2022 at the earliest.
iPhone 12 vs. iPhone 12 Pro: performance
Despite the different pricing and other features you’ll find across the iPhone 12 lineup, performance is pretty consistent. That’s because all four iPhones run on Apple’s new A14 Bionic processor, which happens to give the best results we’ve ever seen in benchmark tests.
You can read our full iPhone 12 benchmarks report, but the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro scored almost identical numbers on tests like Geekbench 5, which measures overall performance, and 3DMark’s Wild Life test, for graphics performance. In our practical test – in which we transcode a 4K video in 1080p – only one second separated the time of the iPhone 12 from that of the iPhone 12 Pro.
