Before nbn™ became available, it was acceptable for local business owners to have a telephone connection that wasn’t compatible with nbn™.

However, NBN is now starting to roll out around the Hunter region and nbn™ compatible connections are mandatory for new or existing nbn™ Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) nbn™ broadband connections .

If your business currently has an old analogue phone system , it isn’t compatible. NBN requires either a VoIP phone service or an IP/Optical Network Terminal (ONT).

A VoIP service can be run on an existing analogue system but will go through the speeds achievable on nbn™ and not what you may expect from previous telephone systems in the past.

NBN recommends that if you are an existing customer and have not yet upgraded to nbn™, please contact your service provider as soon as possible to discuss upgrading your service .

If you are a new customer, NBN also recommends that you speak to your preferred telephone or broadband provider about the best way to connect to nbn™.

business owners in the Hunter region who haven’t yet made the switch to nbn™ may find their phone systems are no longer working come October this year when NBN will start disconnecting services that are still on analogue technology.

The nbn™ switchover is mandatory for all premises in the nbn™ footprint – so whether you’re ready or not, your nbn™ NBN is coming.

If NBN has already connected your nbn™ service and you find that your NBN phone system is no longer working, NBN recommends contacting NBN to arrange a power reset on the nbn™ box in order for your NBN phone system to be re-detected by your phone or broadband provider so they can reconnect it.
