What’s the South Korean fashion designer up to these days?

Owing to the pandemic, Minju Kim is currently residing in her hometown in Seoul, South Korea. With the inability to travel to her work, and being confined to the walls of her studio, she has obvious restrictions towards the development of her business. However, despite being stuck in her studio, her designs have traveled the world.

Minju Kim has an active page on Instagram where she regularly posts new designs and collections. Her collections are designed for each season based on a specific theme. Kim also has an online store from where people can buy her trending and seasonal outfits. Kim has also released her winning collection on the website of Net-a-Porter, a luxury retail store, where her designs sell out in no time.

Kim’s recent winter FW12 collection was named ‘Edward’s Christmas’. She told in an interview with Forbes that she chose the theme because of her fondness for the movie, Edward Scissorhands. She was disheartened by the plight of Edward and wanted to represent a season where Edward has a Christmas filled with joy and happiness.

The most recent concept of Minju Kim, the SS21 collection, was named ‘The Spring we Lost’. She used this concept to show how the lockdown made people miss out on the goodness of spring. She wanted to give a hopeful message through her designs. She even used sustainable materials like biodegradable fabric and digital prints to ensure zero water waste.

Minju Kim bases her designs on stories and fantasies. Because she wants to convey her feelings and inspirations to the world through her art. She says that the positive feedback she gets for her work encourages her and gives her the confidence to think out of the box to come up with unique designs. “I want anyone who wears our collection to be happy, confident, strong, and love themselves”, she says to Forbes.

Minju Kim and her unique style:

Right from the start, Minju Kim has been involved with designs that replicate traditional feminine clothing. She incorporates aspects such as; puffed sleeves, billowing silhouettes, ruffles, bows, ribbons, belts, and stockings to make outfits. Kim uses her concepts in the form of prints, patterns, and colors. Her use of bold colors shows that she expresses her love for vibrant colors confidently. Her prints usually recur in every design of a collection.

Her label MINJUKIM does not rely on trends while creating designs. Minju Kim uses her art and visualizes a concept of her own and then designs her clothing. Apart from clothing, she is also interested in designing bags.

As the CEO and owner of her brand, Minju Kim strives to maintain quality and regularity in coming up with new designs. Kim wants to have her label recognized as one of the best in the world. And she wants to do it with the help of her sister. Her sister’s experience in handling business, and with the talent of her own, Minju Kim is confident that she can keep up with the growing demands of the fashion industry.

Conclusion:

The label MINJUKIM is constantly developing in the fashion world. Minju Kim, through her hard work, has successfully managed to build a fashion brand. Her regularity in posting new designs and the trust she earns from customers have helped her evolve as a fashion designer.
