Guru Purnima arrives once a year in July during the full moon. This is a day dedicated to our Gurus or teachers. The astrological significance also makes this day important since the frequency stays high on this day. The positivity increases as angles come from heaven to visit the Earth.

This also makes the day important for various religious and spiritual practices. Hence this is an important day for yogis and those who practice meditation regularly. Spiritual people never fail to take advantage of this day and progress on their spiritual path.

Importance of a Guru

Guru means teacher, which refers to a person who shares his knowledge with the world. He is the remover of the darkness, as we can understand by the word “Guru,” where Gu means darkness and Ru means remover. So Guru is the remover of darkness, and he brings the illumination of knowledge to our life.

If we understand with a small example, we need to look back at our school life. All the teachers that taught us the important subjects and helped us solve the difficulties of academics are our Gurus. They played the role of sharing their knowledge with us so that we cleared our examinations and became brilliant students.

Similarly, we have our Gurus in the college life who help us cover the syllabus. With their grace, we graduate and progress in life toward becoming successful people.

Guru Purnima is a chance to celebrate our teachers and remember their teachings. It is a day to remember how we grew up under the shelter of our teachers and how their knowledge helped us become who we are today. Hence Guru’s work can never be forgotten, and we can never repay his debt.

In Hinduism, Guru is placed Superior among all that even God worship the Guru. He has said that a teacher is the Supreme, without which we can’t cultivate wisdom.

That is how to progress in every field, we need a Guru or a mentor. For example, we need a Guru who can guide us toward the right path in spirituality. Those in meditation and Yoga can make true progress if they have a Guru by their side. Only a Guru knows the right process that can make us spiritually wise, which helps us cut down the cycle of karma and liberates us from birth and death.

That is why Guru Purnima is a day always celebrated in India and nearby countries such as Nepal.

How Does a Teacher Help Us Spiritually?

We all come to this plane to play our karma cycle and get fruit accordingly. The ultimate motive of a soul is to get liberated from the cycle of life and death and become free to join heaven. This is a theory according to various scriptures. Hence the ultimate motive of a human is to seek liberation from this world of illusion.

To do this, a soul needs to be spiritually advanced with higher consciousness, and only then can it break down its karma without creating any new karma. To do this, a human needs to walk on the spiritual path and increase consciousness.

Only a Guru is the right entity we can rely on since he has complete knowledge about progressing spiritually. He can teach us how to meditate to the point that we start cutting bad karmas. Without a Guru, one can only walk in a dark tunnel that has no end. Hence a Guru comes as a flashlight in that dark tunnel that takes you to another end.

It is important to seek a true Guru who can help you break the karmic patterns and fill your heart with true bliss of higher consciousness. That is how you can say goodbye to this materialistic world and rest in the heavenly abode according to the supreme plan.

Thus we all recognize the importance of a teacher in our life. Guru Purnima is a day to stop for a moment and thank our teachers who have helped us so far. This is because only with gratitude do you realize the good things of life, and the Universe makes you prepare for your further journey.

There are many ways to celebrate Guru Purnima, and everyone celebrates it in their own style. Such as in schools and colleges, students organize many functions in which their teachers participate. The award ceremony happens in which they award the teachers based on their role in different programs and plays.

Teachers also prepare a speech and talk to their students to motivate them for the future. Some students also give their favorite teachers gifts and greeting cards. In colleges, alumni also motivate the present students to do better and share their stories.
