One Sunday two schoolboys rounded up three Goats in the neighborhood. They painted the numbers 1, 2, and 4 on their sides. That night, they let the goats loose inside their school. Monday morning, when the authorities entered the school, they were met with a mess. There were Goat droppings all over and the premises stank. A search was organized and they soon found the three Goats. But the authorities were perplexed. The Goats were numbered 1, 2, and 4. Where was Goat No. 3? They spent the rest of the day looking for the missing Goat after declaring all classes canceled. Teachers, students, peons, watchmen, canteen staff, bus drivers, and even the principal joined in the search. But Goat No. 3 could not be found simply because it did not exist.
Isn’t it that way with us, too? Despite those of us having a good life we are always dissatisfied and feel a lack of fulfillment so we spend time looking for the elusive Goat No. 3 in our lives. Whatever the dissatisfaction, whether it is over a job, a relationship, home, health, finance, or personal goals the absence of something is always greater than the presence of many other things in our lives. So, stop worrying about the indefinable Goat No. 3 and learn to enjoy what you have in life
