Tips for Repairing a Split Carpet Seam –

  1. Find a carpet seaming iron that closely matches the carpet backing. If the carpet is already installed, you will need to remove a section of the baseboard so you can slide the carpet out from under it. Clean both carpet edges to be sure there is no dirt or debris.

2. Use a carpet knife to trim any frayed carpet fibres along the edge of the carpet.

3. Position the carpet seaming iron on one side of the split seam, then press down and hold it in place for about 10 seconds.

4. Place carpet tape underneath the split seam, then position the other half of the carpet back in place.

5. Run the carpet seaming iron over the top of the carpet tape to seal it in place.

6. Replace the baseboard, then use a carpet roller to press the carpet down and help blend the seams together.
